Bengaluru has been a key place in the nightlife world map. The Indian city was in 17th place on Time Out’s list of the world’s best cities for nightlife for 2026 in terms of nightlife in Time Out and is already among the most popular places in other cities.
What is even more interesting about this ranking is that Bengaluru is the only Indian city to make it into the top 20 global cities to enter this rankings of cities.
Delhi and Mumbai, which are two cities often associated with India’s rich nightlife, were not able to get into the top 40 list for the first time this year.
Time Out’s annual ranking was based on feedback from more than 24,000 people in 150 cities across 150 countries.
Quality of nightlife, affordability, atmosphere, diversity, safety and community after dark were the factors considered in the survey. Local experts and Time Out editors also helped to compile the final rankings.
Bengaluru’s nightlife reputation has been growing rapidly over the years. And while the city is known to be India’s tech and startup capital, its evening life is far more than what the corporate image gives it the look like it should be.
From bustling pubs and craft breweries to cocktail lounges, live music venues and late-night social spaces, Bengaluru has created a very dynamic entertainment culture.
Popular neighbourhoods such as Indiranagar, Koramangala and MG Road still attract many people, and Whitefield and Ulsoor have their own nightlife scenes.
The city’s appeal is also in itself that is not only in those types of variety of things people are able to see; people can have fun in the brewery, on the rooftop, in the club, performing music, comedy shows and the smaller neighbourhood bars.
This mix has helped build a nightlife of Bengaluru beyond the traditional nightclubs.
Community is another factor that seems to have gone in Bengaluru’s favour. In the Time Out survey, 82% of Bengaluru residents scored the city highly in terms of community. Around 71% also loved the quality of the nightlife in the city.
However, affordability was one of the areas where Bengaluru received a lower score, and 54% of those were favourable.
Rising prices at popular restaurants, breweries and entertainment venues may have played a part in that.
Bengaluru’s 17th-place finish puts it in the company of some of the world’s best nightlife destinations.
Bangkok was the most popular city followed by Berlin and New York City. Melbourne and São Paulo finished fifth.
Bengaluru has now gained an international reputation, and it is the recognition that Bengaluru wants to have.
It is already rich in technology, startups, education and its cosmopolitan population. Its booming nightlife scene indicates the same global attention is being given to it and it is in an increasing nightlife scene.
The ranking also reflects how nightlife is changing. Today’s urban nightlife is not entirely in huge clubs.
Local bars, breweries, music venues, cultural events and neighbourhood hangouts are now part of the experience.
Bengaluru's place among the top 20 is also indicative of the changing city culture. For a city more known for software and startups, Bengaluru is proving that it is not only able to handle itself when the sun goes down.
