A Bengaluru woman has raised food safety concerns by saying she found a live caterpillar in food ordered at Paris Panini. She posted pictures and a video of a caterpillar in the food and posted an image and video of what appeared to be a caterpillar in the food.

Very soon the post was viewed on X, and many people commented on the incident and also wrote about their own experiences of ordering from the cafe. Paris Panini CEO Nicolas Grossemy also directly responded to the complaint, saying he apologised to the customer and that the situation would be investigated.

Note that the claim is based on user-generated social media content and has not been independently verified. There is also no official finding as to how the caterpillar entered the food or whether the incident was a food safety violation.

A woman shares video of alleged caterpillar

The complaint was posted by Bengaluru-based X user Anwesha Majhi on August 29. Majhi questioned hygiene standards at cafes and said she was disappointed when she found a live caterpillar in her food from Paris Panini.

Majhi also said she’d enjoyed the brand’s food, so the news about the discovery was especially hard for her. She posted this picture and a video that appeared to show an insect moving in the food.

The post went viral, and social media users took notice. Some people said they had ordered food from Paris Panini before and others said the hygiene issue was a problem.

And some of the reactions were not from a sense of humor: Community members said it might make them rethink their decision to order food from cafes. Users saw the caterpillar as an unexpected “additional topping” or “protein.”

But the social media reactions do not prove whether the allegation is true. The evidence only confirms that the customer had made the complaint and shared visuals that she said showed a caterpillar.

Paris Panini Founder Apologises

Nicolas Grossemy, the founder of Paris Panini, posted a post and apologised for Majhi’s experience. He described it as “completely unacceptable” and said it was far below what the brand strives to be.

Grossemy said the company has processes in place across its kitchens where such incidents are prevented. He said he wanted to see exactly where the order came from and what went wrong before concluding.

The founder asked Majhi to share her order details privately so that he could look into it personally. He said the company would trace where the process might have failed and take necessary corrective action based on the findings.

The company’s response has attracted attention in part because the founder did not dismiss the customer’s complaint. He acknowledged her concern and said the company needed to look into it.

What Is Known About The Alleged Incident?

But there is little information on the food item involved or how the order was made. The social media post shows what appears to be a caterpillar, but the reports do not independently establish how it got into the food.

There is also no official statement from a food safety authority confirming that Paris Panini violated any regulations in connection with the complaint.

Such a distinction is important because the incident has spread online quickly. Social media posts can bring attention to a consumer complaint, but a restaurant’s responsibility for food preparation, storage, handling, and other aspects needs to be investigated.

The founder’s response indicates that the company will look into those details before deciding what went wrong.

Food Hygiene Becomes a Concern

The incident has once again brought food hygiene back to the forefront of public consciousness as cafes and food delivery services have become part of everyday life in cities.

For customers, hygiene would be a very important factor in deciding where to eat. A complaint of a foreign object or insect in food will soon raise concerns about how food is prepared.

However, the facts will depend on the investigation carried out by the cafe. So far, the customer’s complaint, the accompanying visuals, and the founder’s response provide the most information, but they don’t show the real cause of the incident.

For now Paris Panini’s founder has said he will personally investigate the complaint and identify where the process may have failed. The result of that investigation will determine whether further action is required.
