Bengaluru Rental Crisis: Frustrated Techie Quits Job After Failing to Find Affordable Home

Finding a house in Bengaluru has become increasingly challenging, especially for bachelors. A recent viral social media post has highlighted the severity of the city’s rental crisis, where a young professional reportedly decided to quit his job after struggling to find a suitable home.

The individual, who was living in Electronic City, had secured a job near MG Road. However, his daily commute stretched up to 52 kilometres, consuming nearly three hours each day and leaving him exhausted.

In an attempt to relocate closer to his workplace, he began searching for a 1BHK apartment in areas such as Indiranagar, Domlur, and Richmond Town, with a budget of ₹25,000. Despite paying around ₹8,000 for premium rental apps and consulting brokers, he failed to find a suitable home.

In his viral post, the techie expressed frustration, stating that even “matchbox-sized houses” were being rented out at exorbitant prices. His ordeal worsened when a house in Domlur, which he had almost finalised, was allegedly given to someone else at a higher rent after the broker blocked his contact at the last minute.

Disheartened by the experience, he wrote that the Bengaluru real estate market felt like a “joke” and announced his decision to resign from his job due to the ongoing housing struggle.

The post has struck a chord with many social media users, who shared similar experiences. Several commenters said they too had been searching for months without success, while others complained about inflated rents for small spaces.

Some users suggested exploring relatively affordable localities like Malleswaram, Rajajinagar, and Sheshadripuram as alternatives.

The viral post has once again sparked debate over Bengaluru’s rising rental costs, broker practices, and the urgent need for more transparent and affordable housing options in the city.
