Bengaluru Set to Get Its Longest 10.3-Km Cycling Corridor Connecting Magadi Road and Mysuru Road

Bengaluru is on the verge of launching one of its most ambitious urban mobility projects, a 10.3 km-long cycling lane connecting Magadi Road and Mysuru Road. A project to promote sustainable transportation and create safer commuting for cyclists, the project will be one of the longest continuous cycling routes in the city.

The cycling corridor has been constructed as part of the Major Arterial Road (MAR) project and is currently being implemented by the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA). Once it is in action, cyclists will have a largely uninterrupted route to travel without the pressure of regular vehicular traffic.

One of the biggest boosts for cyclists

For many years, cycling lovers and residents of Bengaluru have been calling for cyclists to have dedicated roads to travel on. The cycling corridor for cyclists will do just that in the future, with dedicated lanes for cyclists.

The track will span about 10.3 km and will provide a continuous route for most of it. Except for a short segment close to an underpass, cyclists will be able to ride in a lane in the middle of the road. This separation from vehicles is expected to make for much better safety and encourage more people to use cycling as their regular mode of transportation.

Connecting Key Areas

The corridor will connect Magadi Road to Mysuru Road, two of the key transport corridors in Bengaluru. With the cycling route planned between the two areas and the use of a dedicated cycling route, the authorities want to make non-motorised transportation more feasible and accessible for commuters.

The project is also expected to improve last-mile connectivity, allowing people to combine cycling with public transport options. Urban planners believe that such infrastructure can play a crucial role in reducing dependency on private vehicles and easing traffic congestion in the city.

Promoting Sustainable Mobility

Bengaluru is also facing some challenges related to traffic congestion, air pollution, and the increasing number of vehicles. The new cycling corridor is part of a larger effort to promote environmentally minded transportation solutions.

A dedicated cycling infrastructure has many benefits. It reduces carbon emissions, reduces traffic density, promotes healthier lifestyles, and creates a more sustainable urban environment. By providing a safe and convenient route for cyclists, the city hopes to inspire more people to choose bicycles for short-distance travel and daily commuting.

Expected Inauguration on Kempegowda Jayanti

The cycling corridor is expected to be opened on June 27 for the Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Jayanti celebration. It would be a step forward in Bengaluru's journey of modern, people-oriented transportation.

The 10.3 km cycling corridor will become a landmark project for Bengaluru and will demonstrate the city’s commitment to sustainable mobility, healthier lifestyles, and safer roads for all users. Urban planners and cycling advocates believe the project could potentially be the stepping stone for similar dedicated cycling networks in the city in the future.
