Bengaluru: Two Children Killed in Horrific School Bus Crash Near Thanisandra

A typical morning went off the rails for a family in Thanisandra today; a private school bus collided with a motorcycle, killing two young children. It was another morning run in Thanisandra within the jurisdiction of the Hennur Traffic Police. According to initial reports, Naganagowda, a police constable who is from Yadgir, who works in the City Auxiliary Reserve (CAR), was taking his daughter and daughter of his brother to fetch milk. The victims have been reported to be:

  • Varsha, aged 2.
  • Bhanu, aged 4.

Witnesses said the constable had stopped his motorcycle to let the private school bus (on its morning pickup rounds) make a U-turn. The bus, however, apparently swerved without warning and struck the stationary motorcycle. The two children were ejected from the bike, falling underneath the bus's back wheels.

Rescue Efforts and Outrage

Passersby and local residents rushed to the scene and carried the children to a nearby private hospital. Despite the hard work of those on the scene, both Varsha and Bhanu were found dead on arrival due to substantial head and internal injuries. Naganagowda survived the crash with minor physical injuries but is currently in a state of extreme shock. The community was outraged by the news of the children’s deaths. Local members of the public assembled at the hospital and the scene of the crash asking for stricter action against both the school authorities and the driver.

Police Action

The Hennur Traffic Police have registered a case of death due to negligence.

  • Driver Taken into Custody: The school bus driver is in custody for questioning.
  • Investigation: The Traffic Department Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), North visited the scene to oversee the investigation.
  • Post-Mortem: Children’s bodies have been moved to the Yelahanka Government Hospital for post-mortem examinations.

This calamity followed a death in January 2026 when a mother and son were hit by a college bus on Viveknagar Main Road, reflecting the alarming trend of the negligence of heavy vehicles in peak morning hours of Bengaluru.
