A trainee Army personnel has been arrested in Karnataka's Bidar district after his wife died of injuries she received in an assault. The case that started as an attempt to murder investigation is now a murder case after the death of the victim.
Bidar Superintendent of Police (SP) Pradeep Gunti gave details of the investigation and said police are examining all possible angles to determine the motive behind the alleged crime.
Incident reported near Siddeshwara Matha
According to SP Pradeep Gunti, the incident took place on 26th June within the jurisdiction of the Dhanur Police Station. The husband and wife were found injured at Siddeshwara Matha on Khanapur Road.
Accordingly, a Home Guard who found the injured couple suspected they were involved in a road accident. Emergency services were immediately notified, and both individuals were taken to a private hospital in Bidar for treatment.
But the course of the investigation changed when the injured woman provided a statement to the police while undergoing treatment.
Victim's Statement
Before her condition deteriorated, the woman said in a statement that her husband Bhagwat Jnaneshwar had attacked her with a car spanner and tried to kill her.
Based on her statement, police registered a case of attempted murder and began investigating the incident. The accused is a trainee Army personnel who is currently undergoing training and stationed at Secunderabad Cantonment.
Victim Dies During Treatment
As the woman's health deteriorated, doctors referred her to a hospital in Solapur, Maharashtra, for advanced medical treatment.
She was taken to the hospital and treated, but she succumbed to her injuries on Tuesday night despite the help of medical personnel.
After her death, Bidar police changed the case from attempt to murder to murder under the relevant provisions of the law and formally arrested the accused.
Investigation into Motive
Police said preliminary inquiries revealed that the couple had several marital disputes.
According to family members who talked to police during the investigation, arguments between the husband and wife were common, they said. They also said they suspected the accused was in an extramarital relationship.
SP Pradeep Gunti, however, said that investigators are still trying to identify the motive behind the alleged crime, and no conclusions have been made at this stage.
Clarification on Earlier Allegations
Responding to claims of a previous attempt to harm the victim by mixing pesticide into her food, SP Gunti said no complaint regarding such an incident had ever been received or registered at any police station.
He advised the public not to speculate and that the investigation would be conducted based on the evidence.
Police Continue Investigation
Investigators are collecting forensic evidence, recording witness statements, and examining all relevant circumstances surrounding the incident.
Police are also looking into the couple’s background, communication records, and other material that may help establish the events leading up to the alleged assault.
Officials said they were committed to a fair and comprehensive investigation, and they will continue to conduct an impartial investigation while ensuring that all legal procedures are followed.

Not only has the government warned the public not to circulate unverified information or rumors on social media, but it has also said that spreading rumors could interfere with the investigation and spoil it.
Conclusion
The death of the woman has transformed an attempted murder investigation into a murder case. Bidar police are still investigating to determine the exact circumstances and motive for the incident.
More details are expected to come out as forensic reports, witness testimony, and other evidence are received. All aspects of the case will be thoroughly investigated before the final charge sheet is presented to the court, authorities said.
