Security has been stepped up in Patna ahead of student protests at some of the other key places in Bihar’s capital ahead of a student protest march to the Chief Minister’s residence to make a speech. Security personnel have been deployed near Gandhi Maidan and Dak Bungalow, with police on the ground and police also deployed in the vicinity of Gandhi Maidan and Dak Bungalow in preparation of all the preparations for the next few days to keep law and order.
The proposed student march has drawn attention in Patna as a large gathering of protesters is expected to take to the streets. It was reported from the vicinity of Gandhi Maidan and Dak Bungalow that the administration had been putting more security measures in place ahead of the demonstration.
Student protests are often an important public expression on education, exams, recruitment, employment opportunities and government policies. However, a march towards the residence of a Chief Minister needs to be made more security-complicated as large numbers could crowd the roads and sensitive places.
In such demonstrations, police usually deploy more police officers to control traffic, avoid clashes, and keep public movement moving. Barricades and other crowd control measures are also likely to be deployed at strategic areas, depending on the size and route of the protest.

Gandhi Maidan is one of Patna’s main public spaces and has historically been associated with big political and social gatherings. Dak Bungalow is another key central area with significant vehicular movement. Any large protest procession passing through these locations could therefore have an impact on traffic and daily commuting.
The security arrangements are meant to keep the protest peaceful and allow no unauthorized entry to certain areas. The police will monitor the gathering and coordinate movement along the proposed march route.
For commuters, increased security deployment could lead to traffic restrictions, diversions or slower movement in parts of central Patna. Residents going through Gandhi Maidan, Dak Bungalow and surrounding roads may be delayed depending on the size and duration of the protest.
