A bomb threat targeting Delhi’s historic Red Fort triggered a major security operation after Mumbai Police received a phone call claiming that the iconic monument would be blown up.
As per typical security protocol, Mumbai Police immediately notified Delhi Police and all the concerned security agencies, and immediately responded to one of the country’s most heavily protected heritage sites.
Intensive Search Conducted
After receiving the alert, Delhi Police significantly increased security in and around the Red Fort.
Specialized teams, including the:
Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS)
Dog Squad
Local Police Personnel
were deployed to carry out an extensive anti-sabotage search of the monument and surrounding areas.
Officials thoroughly searched the premises to detect no explosive device or suspicious object.
No Suspicious Material Found
According to police officials, the search operation concluded without any explosives or suspicious items, and there was no recovery of any explosives or other suspicious items, they said.
The threat call was a hoax, but authorities are confident that every bomb threat is being treated with the highest level of seriousness to the best of their ability until proven otherwise.
Security personnel were on alert even after the search had concluded as a precautionary measure.
Investigation Underway
Mumbai Police have already launched an investigation to find out who made the threatening phone call.
Investigators are examining:
Phone records
Call details
Technical evidence
The origin of the phone number.
The Delhi Police are working closely with the Mumbai Police in the investigation.
Officials have not said who called or why, nor what the motive was behind the threat.
High-Security Monument
The Red Fort remains one of India's most sensitive and strategically protected monuments due to its historical and national significance.
The monument hosts the country’s Independence Day celebrations every year, during which the Prime Minister addresses the nation, and security measures around the site are particularly tight.
The Red Fort has received similar threat calls in the past, authorities said. Bomb threat emails targeting the monument and several government institutions were investigated last year and then declared hoaxes after thorough searches.
Authorities Urge Public Not to Panic
Police have advised citizens not to panic, assuring the public that all the security measures were being implemented immediately.
These threats—whether genuine or not—are taken seriously and fully investigated to maintain public safety and security at important national landmarks, officials said.
The investigation into the source of the threat call continues, and authorities have stated that appropriate legal action will be taken once the caller is identified.
