In a dramatic early morning crash that looked like a scene from a movie, six tourists escaped serious injury when the Toyota Fortuner SUV they were travelling in lost control and struck a coffee estate at Kaimara Checkpost near Kaimara village in Chikkamagaluru district. Despite the carnage of the crash and the huge damage done to the vehicle, all six passengers were not injured, and locals and search and rescue personnel were shocked at the accident.
The accident occurred near Kaimara Checkpost in Chikkamagaluru Taluk when the group was returning from a trip to Mullayanagiri hill station, one of the tourist spots in Karnataka. According to initial information, the tourists travelling from Bengaluru were heading back after completing their tour when the driver lost control of the vehicle.
The SUV veered off the main road and plunged into a deep coffee plantation in the woods below the roadside. Witnesses said the vehicle fell from the road onto the estate and had major damage to the car. The Fortuner was mangled after crashing into the estate, with various parts of the vehicle crushed in the crash.
Fortunately, all six tourists in the vehicle survived what could have been a potentially fatal accident. The passengers were only slightly wounded and shock-affected, but none of them was seriously injured enough to be hospitalised. It’s hailed as a miraculous escape because of the size of the coffee estate and the extent of the damage to the vehicles.
As soon as people heard of the accident, they rushed to the scene, and the Tourist Mitra team immediately started rescue efforts. The injured passengers were pulled out of the damaged car, and first aid was provided before help arrived. At first sight, they were able to do that quickly, and they were there to make sure the people who were involved in the accident were safe.
Police from the rural area also came to investigate and perform an inspection. Information about the cause of the crash was collected from officials. While the exact cause of the accident is still under investigation, we can expect road conditions, driver fatigue, visibility, weather conditions, and vehicle speed to be involved.
The road leading to Mullayanagiri is winding with steep slopes and sharp bends. Travellers from Bengaluru can be found there on weekends and holidays. People should be driving slowly in the early morning and late at night when visibility is poor.
The accident again demonstrates the importance of road safety in hilly regions. Drivers should take proper rest before travelling long distances and exercise caution while using mountain roads, experts say. And they do need to wear seat belts and ensure vehicles are in good shape before they take to the road.
The Fortuner was extensively damaged and might need serious repairs, but for all six passengers to survive with only minor injuries is certainly nothing short of lucky. The tourists were treated for their injuries and were reported to be out of danger.
The local police are investigating the incident and will give a more detailed report once they are done. The dramatic escape has become something that people in Karnataka and tourists talk about at times, and it’s a reminder of both the beauty and dangers of travelling in the hills.
