The Renukaswamy murder case has taken another major legal turn with the court ruling that other accused persons cannot file objections against accused Pradosh’s application to become an approver in the case.
The development is seen as a setback for Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa and other accused who could also be in trouble if Pradosh is made available to be an eyewitness to the prosecution.
Pradosh, one of the accused in the high-profile case, recently approached the court seeking approver status. An approver is an accused person who agrees to provide evidence or testimony on the alleged offence and other persons involved, subject to the applicable legal process and court approval. His move has brought a new dimension to the proceedings and could become significant if the court ultimately accepts his request.
According to the new development in the Sessions Court, the other accused in the case will not be allowed to submit objections specifically against Pradosh being considered for approver status. The court is expected to issue a separate order on whether Pradosh’s application itself should be considered and accepted.
The order was passed by Judge Sujatha M. Sambhrani. The court’s decision on the objection issue does not mean that Pradosh has already been granted approver status. His application still remains to be considered separately and the court will decide the next legal course based on the applicable provisions and the material before it.
The development is significant as Pradosh’s testimony could give investigators and prosecutors another account of the events that led to Renukaswamy’s death. Any evidence offered by the accused seeking approver status would be subject to legal scrutiny and the requirements of the judicial process.
Pradosh had earlier been named as one of the accused in the case of Renukaswamy's death. Court reports indicate that he was among those charged in the case, and the prosecution has previously relied on various forms of evidence against the accused.
The case has drawn much public attention because actor Darshan is among the accused. Renukaswamy was killed in the heat of a dispute over messages sent to Pavithra Gowda, also an accused in the case. Such allegations are part of the ongoing judicial process and the evidence must be established in court.
Pradosh’s decision to seek approver status could be an important addition to the trial. If he is approved and given the legal status he seeks, he can testify alongside all the other evidence that has been gathered by investigators. But the substance of such a testimony would be decided by the courts.
The latest order also underscores the distinction between opposing an accused’s application and challenging the evidence that could then be extracted from it. The court has apparently ruled that the other accused cannot respond to the approver application at this time. A separate decision about whether Pradosh should actually be considered an approver is expected.
So for Darshan and the other accused, the development could complicate their legal tactics. But it is too early to conclude that Pradosh's application automatically establishes guilt of any other accused. The court will have to investigate the application, the relevant legal requirements and material available before making a decision.
The Renukaswamy case has already gone through several major legal developments. When the Supreme Court canceled the bail of Darshan, Pavithra Gowda and five other accused in August 2025 and ordered immediate arrest, it was a major change in the course of the case.
Pradosh had earlier also tried to obtain legal relief in the case. In February 2026, the Karnataka High Court heard his plea for discharge and held that the prosecution had material sufficient for the matter to proceed.
The latest approver application now adds another layer to the ongoing proceedings. The Sessions Court’s decision regarding objections means that the focus will now shift to the separate order on Pradosh’s request.
As the case progresses, the court’s ultimate decision on the approver plea will be closely watched. At the same time, all allegations will be reviewed by the courts and the guilt or innocence of the accused will be established through the legal system.
