Robin Das, 24, was charged with two counts of rape in the United Kingdom today and is due to appear at Inner London Crown Court on October 9, 2026. The case began when a woman was raped in Brixton, south London, in March 2024 and involved a woman, the Metropolitan Police said in a statement.
Das, a right-handed top-order batter of Bangladeshi origin, was arrested on 27 August 2025 following the reports. He was released on bail and formally charged on 23 July 2026 with two counts of rape. The Metropolitan Police said the woman involved continues to receive support from specialist officers.

The Metropolitan Police said Das, who lives in Waltham Forest, was charged after an investigation into the reported incident in Brixton on March 30, 2024.
Then his case was sent to the Crown Court, and he is due to appear at Inner London Crown Court on October 9. Court proceedings are now underway.
The allegations are criminal charges and have not been proven in court. Das is entitled to due process as the case proceeds.
Essex Confirms Player's Suspension
Essex County Cricket Club confirmed that a male member of its contracted playing staff had appeared in court in connection with an incident outside club activities. Although the club did not name the player in the club statement, subsequent reporting identified him as Robin Das.
The club said it had continued to contact the England and Wales Cricket Board, the Professional Cricketers' Association, the Cricket Regulator and the player throughout the matter.

Robin Das' most recent appearance for Essex came in a One-Day Cup match against Middlesex on 21 July 2026. He scored 29 runs in that match.
Two days later, on July 23, he was formally charged. He has not represented Essex since and remains suspended, according to reports.
Das made his Essex debut in 2020 as an 18-year-old. He has represented the county in first-class, List A and T20 cricket. Reports state nine first-class and 29 List A games, plus his T20 career.
The cricket career and Bangladeshi connection
Das was born in Leytonstone, London, of Bangladeshi descent. Reports have stated that he is British-Bangladeshi, with his father having roots in Sylhet, Bangladesh. He also had a short run in the Bangladesh Premier League, playing for Dhaka Dominators in 2023.
Das progressed through the Essex academy and age-group system before making his senior debut. He made his first-class debut in 2023 and scored a century against Ireland in that match, according to cricket reports. He has also played in the county’s white-ball formats.
His career also included T20 Blast and One-Day Cup appearances, but he has not represented England in an international match.
