On Thursday, 1 October 2026 Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta participated in the “Ek Din, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saath” cleanliness drive at Kamla Nehru Ridge as part of the nationwide “Swachhata Hi Seva 2026” campaign.
According to an ANI report on October 1, the Delhi Chief Minister joined municipal workers, environmental activists and local residents in voluntary “Shramdaan,” which emphasized the importance of public participation in maintaining clean and healthy urban spaces.
The national initiative is for citizens to spend one hour cleaning and to contribute to the improvement of public spaces. Swachhata Hi Seva guidelines set in motion simultaneous Shramdaan and cleanliness drives across the country on October 1.
Rekha Gupta Participates in Shramdaan
Rekha Gupta participated in the cleanliness drive in hands-on sanitation and worked with people who are in charge of the area.
The programme is indicative of the campaign's overall focus on Jan Bhagidari, or people's participation in cleanliness and civic responsibility. From September 17 to October 2, Swachhata Hi Seva will be in place for the 2026 Swachhata Hi Seva campaign, which will include sanitation, waste management, behavioural change and community participation.
The October 1 Shramdaan is one of the day’s major nationwide activities of the campaign and brings together citizens, government representatives, sanitation workers, youth groups, NGOs and other organisations.
Inspection of Kamla Nehru Ridge
After the cleaning, the Chief Minister examined sanitation and restoration work at Kamla Nehru Ridge, one of Delhi’s key green areas.
The waste clearance and removal of plastic and debris around walking tracks and forest corridors were highlighted during the visit.
The Chief Minister also looked at the civic infrastructure in the area, including pathways, fencing and other facilities used by visitors.
Focus on Waste Removal and Environmental Protection
The inspection also indicated that the Ridge’s natural environment should be maintained.
Drainage channels and other infrastructure were reviewed as part of efforts to prevent waterlogging, soil erosion and deterioration of the surrounding green area.
Officials and sanitation workers were also directed to keep a watch on illegal dumping around the Ridge and keep up with the regular cleaning of vulnerable locations.
The focus on waste management is in line with the wider objectives of Swachhata Hi Seva 2026, which also promotes segregation, recycling, resource recovery and responsible waste management.

Community Participation Takes Centre Stage
Residents, environmental volunteers and civic workers all contribute to the campaign because they have to be involved, and it is based on the idea of collective responsibility.
The “Ek Din, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saath” initiative aims to bring people together for a common cleanliness effort rather than treating sanitation as the responsibility of government agencies alone.
Official guidelines also encourage participation by political leadership, citizens, youth groups, NGOs and civil society organisations in local Shramdaan activities.
Swachhata Hi Seva 2026
Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 is being conducted ahead of Swachh Bharat Diwas on October 2. Cleanliness is combined with awareness, waste management, citizen engagement and environmental responsibility in the campaign.
Rekha Gupta’s participation at Kamla Nehru Ridge on October 1 was therefore part of the nationwide one-hour Shramdaan initiative to encourage people to take direct responsibility for the cleanliness of their surroundings.
