A major accident occurred at a CNG station in outer Delhi’s Tikri Kalan area after the gas cylinder of a truck exploded as it was being refilled. One person was killed, and five others were injured in the powerful blast, police said.
The truck was being refuelled when its CNG cylinder exploded at the station. The blast caused panic among people at the fuel facility and prompted an immediate response from the police and fire services.
Visuals from the location showed emergency personnel who were in the vicinity of the CNG station after the explosion.
The deceased person died of injuries that were inflicted in the explosion. Meanwhile, five people were taken to the hospital for treatment, and the condition of the five victims is being assessed.
The Delhi Fire Service responded to the emergency after receiving information about the incident. Fire tenders were sent to the location as a precautionary measure, while police teams arrived at the station and began to secure the area.
So far, the exact cause of the cylinder explosion has not yet been established. The truck's CNG cylinder, the refuelling equipment, and other safety systems at the station will be investigated.
Since CNG is stored under high pressure, any failure with a cylinder, valve, or related equipment can lead to a serious accident. It’s not yet known whether the incident was caused by technical failure, equipment failure, damage to the cylinder, or some other reason.

The investigation would be key to establishing what happened right before the blast took place. At the same time, officials would also need to check if all recommended safety measures were followed during the refuelling process.
The accident has once again highlighted the need to maintain high safety standards at CNG refuelling stations. Commercial vehicles are heavily dependent on CNG in Delhi and in the National Capital Region, so the safe operation and regular inspection of high-pressure cylinders is critically important.
CNG cylinders used in vehicles are subject to safety standards and periodic inspections. Any damage, deterioration, or malfunction can create significant risks because of the high pressure involved. Refuelling stations have to follow well-established procedures to minimize risks when they transfer compressed natural gas.
For commuters and residents in and around Tikri Kalan, the explosion was a scary one. Emergency services quickly intervened to manage the situation and to keep everybody safe at the station.
The five injured people are at hospitals, and authorities are still investigating the fatal accident. More details about the victims and the explosion will be established once officials make their initial assessment.
The incident also serves as a reminder to vehicle owners and commercial operators of the need to maintain fuel systems and ensure cylinders are inspected and certified as required.
At this stage, the explosion has not been attributed to one person or organisation. The cause will be determined only after a technical and safety investigation has been carried out.
The Tikri Kalan CNG station explosion has thus raised fresh safety concerns about handling compressed natural gas. And as one person died and five others were injured, investigators are now trying to determine what exactly was the cause of that accident and if safety lapses contributed to it.
