The two flagship electric models will be launched in India on October 12, 2026. Volvo has already stated that both models are part of its India plans for 2026.

The EX90 will be at the top of Volvo’s SUV range and will have three rows of seating. The ES90, on the other hand, is for a premium electric sedan with a more spacious and practical design.

Both cars will bring Volvo’s latest electric technology, safety systems and connected features to India.

Volvo will be able to launch the new electric models like EX30 and EX40 in the country, as they already have electric models in the country. The EX90 and ES90 will give it a much increased market share in the luxury EV space.

What exactly would Volvo EX90 look like?

The Volvo EX90 is a large electric SUV that is for people who want luxury, space and technology in one package. It can seat up to seven people, so it is a good choice for larger families.

The SUV uses Volvo's SPA2 electric vehicle platform. At higher levels, the EX90 is available to all markets with a large battery pack and dual electric motors. The model has all wheel drive and strong performance.

More important than the other aspects of EX90 is safety.

Volvo has equipped the SUV with advanced driver assistance technology and a LiDAR sensor. The system helps the vehicle detect objects and people around it and helps the car’s safety and driver assistance features.

The EX90 also has a large central touchscreen and a digital driver display. Google built in services are part of the vehicle's connected technology package.

Battery range will be another important factor for Indian buyers. Global versions of the EX90 can offer more than 600 km of claimed WLTP range depending on the variant and configuration.

The vehicle also supports fast DC charging. That may in turn allow owners to spend less time waiting at charging stations during long trips.

In India, the EX90 will be positioned above the existing XC90 in Volvo's line-up. Our estimates are that the electric SUV would cost around Rs 1 crore to Rs 1.3 crore or more depending on the variant and final pricing. But these are just estimates till Volvo announces actual prices in India.

Volvo ES90: Luxury Sedan With Electric Power

Volvo ES90 will take a different approach. Instead of the big SUV design of EX90, it combines the design of a sedan with some of the practicality of a fastback.

The ES90 is based on Volvo’s SPA2 platform as well. Its design is aimed at aerodynamics, comfort as well as interior space.

The car has a large 14.5 inch central touchscreen with Google built in services. It also has a digital driver display and a head up display. A 360 degree camera system can help drivers when parking and manoeuvring in tight spaces.

Volvo has also focused heavily on the car’s aerodynamic design. The ES90 has a claimed drag coefficient of 0.25, making it one of the most aerodynamic models in Volvo’s line-up.

The global ES90 range contains versions with 800 volt electrical architecture. This technology can support very fast charging and makes the sedan suitable for long distance travel.

The ES90 could be priced around Rs 1 crore to Rs 1.2 crore in India, although Volvo is yet to announce the final price.

Both new models will come to India by a premium manufacturing and import route. The exact variant lineup and equipment going to be available in India will become clearer closer to the launch.

The two cars will also give Volvo a stronger presence in India’s growing luxury electric vehicle market and will also help to establish Volvo as the number one player in India’s luxury electric vehicle market.

The EX90 will compete with premium electric SUVs like the BMW iX, Mercedes Benz EQS SUV and Kia EV9. The ES90 will compete with other high end electric sedans and fastback models.

Volvo is more than just introducing two new cars. The company is going for the green option for it and delivering its next generation of electrification technologies to India in the form of electrification and its new technology to the Indian market with all new developments for India.

The October 12 launch should see the final prices, specifications, variants and India specific equipment for both models.

Until then, buyers should expect that the EX90 will appeal to those who want a luxury, seven seat electric SUV, and the ES90 will appeal to those who want a premium electric car with a more traditional sedan inspired design.

The EX90 and ES90 will be Volvo's most ambitious electric offerings in India yet– with advanced safety technology, large batteries, connected features and premium interiors.

When the official launch on October 12 will finally give buyers a clear picture of what these two flagship Volvo EVs will offer in the Indian market.
