A matchbox dispute turned fatal in northwest Delhi where one local man was stabbed to death and another wounded in a chase. The assault took place in Kanhaiya Nagar, which is under the jurisdiction of Keshav Puram police.
The dead man was 30-year-old Bhawani, the police said. Another man, 32-year-old Asha Ram, also sustained injuries during the fight, police said. Three people have been detained and are being questioned as part of the police’s continuing investigation.
According to the initial police report, the argument started after a fight over a matchbox. The dispute turned into a physical fight that resulted in Bhawani getting stabbed several times, the police said. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Asha Ram was taken to a hospital for treatment as well after the incident. Police said he was later discharged. The investigation is still in progress to determine where the argument started and what happened right before and during the alleged stabbing.
Three Detained In Keshav Puram Case
After the incident, Keshav Puram police filed a case under Sections 103(1) and 109(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The laws said murder and an offence where someone tries to cause death or grievous hurt are violations.
Three people have been detained for the case. They are being questioned as investigators attempt to determine their individual roles and to trace back the events.
Police are also looking into the circumstances of the confrontation and collecting evidence as part of the investigation. The detention of the three people does not in itself establish guilt, and investigators will determine their roles based on the evidence collected during the investigation.
