The DMRC has closed 16 metro stations temporarily until further precautions are taken following the rise of security measures in the capital.
The decision was taken as a precautionary move after massive protests and demonstrations were organised in central Delhi and security around sensitive locations was beefed up.
The Delhi Metro said trains will not stop at the affected stations and entry and exit gates will be closed until further notice. However, metro services on the respective lines continue to operate with trains running through these stations without stopping.
The closure has had a severe impact on the daily lives of workers, students and tourists travelling on Delhi Metro for the daily commute. DMRC has advised passengers to plan their journey in advance and use the nearby operating stations or other modes of transportation to make sure that they don't end up stranded with the Delhi Metro.
The stations affected are those located near important government buildings, administrative offices and those in areas where security arrangements have been beefed up.
The move comes at a time of increased police deployment in central Delhi as barricades are put in place on roads leading to Parliament, Jantar Mantar and other high-security sites. Traffic diversions have been put in place and there is also congestion on various routes.
