Today Delhi-NCR will experience widespread rainfall as monsoon activity is a lot stronger in northern India. According to our weather forecast, we expect moderate to heavy showers in Delhi, Noida, Gurugram (Gurgaon), Ghaziabad, Faridabad and the surrounding areas along with thunderstorms and strong winds.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange Alert for parts of Delhi and advised residents of heavy rainfall, waterlogging, low visibility and possible traffic disruption.
Moderate to heavy rain may occur in a few parts of the capital in the next couple of hours, it said.
Noida and Greater Noida are expected to see intermittent rainfall throughout the day, with some heavy showers in some areas. People need to leave early as waterlogging on roads and slower traffic flow may cause delays during peak office hours.
Gurugram is also likely to experience heavy rainfall in phases. The city, which is often flooded at low-lying intersections during torrential rains, will be left in the lurch and traffic will be temporarily blocked. Residents need to avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rain, and keep track of the traffic situation in their neighborhood.
Besides Delhi, Noida and Gurugram, other nearby cities like Ghaziabad and Faridabad are expected to get moderate rainfall with occasional thunderstorms.
Strong winds can also accompany rain in some places, and fallen tree branches and localized power outages could happen.
The rainy weather should keep the daytime temperatures pleasant compared to the warm weather in the last few weeks. Maximum temperatures are expected to remain around 31°C to 33°C, a relief from the humid weather earlier this month. However, humidity levels will still be high between rain spells.
Residents should be on guard when they are commuting, local officials have said. Waterlogged roads should not be traveled through, stay away from electric poles when it is raining, and emergency items should be kept on hand. Motorists should also take care on the roads because of slippery conditions and reduced visibility.
The air quality in Delhi-NCR is also expected to improve due to rain and the constant precipitation, as showers will help remove dust and pollution from the air.
The monsoon will remain active over Delhi-NCR for the next few days, with rain and thunderstorms likely to continue in various parts of the region, weather experts say. Residents are advised to watch official weather updates on social media for forecasts and travel plans before heading out.
Today’s weather is expected to bring some relief from the heat but it may also cause temporary disruption due to heavy rainfall.
People living in flood-prone areas or in low-lying ones should be alert and follow advisories issued by local authorities.
