Delhi Traffic Advisory: Full Dress Rehearsal for Beating Retreat Today; Routes to Avoid

Delhi Traffic Police provides an in-depth advisory in connection with the Full Dress Rehearsal for the Beating Retreat Ceremony today, in Vijay Chowk. The rehearsal will be conducted for the safety of participating contingents, and strict traffic restrictions will be imposed over parts of Central Delhi during the evening hours.

Hours Are Stated And Routes Are Closed

Right now from the hours of 4:00 PM till 6:00 PM today are scheduled to enforce the traffic regulations from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Currently, traffic rules would apply strictly. Commuters warned that only roads like these will be fully blocked when general traffic occurs during the next several blocks will be completely blocked.

  • Vijay Chowk: All vehicular traffic is completely closed to all vehicles shall be completely blocked.
  • Kartavya Path: Closed between Vijay Chowk and the Rafi Marg crossing.
  • Raisina Road: Restricted from Krishi Bhawan roundabout into Vijay Chowk.
  • Key Roundabouts: No traffic will be allowed beyond the roundabouts at Dara Shikoh Road, Krishna Menon Marg, and Sunehri Masjid heading towards Vijay Chowk.

Suggested Alternative Routes for Dara Shikoh Road

To avoid the cordoned-off zones and avoid delays, the Delhi Traffic Police urges motorists to pass through the following corridors:

  • Ring Road and Ridge Road
  • Aurobindo Marg
  • Madarsa T-Point
  • Safdarjung Road to Kamal Ataturk Marg
  • Rani Jhansi Road
  • Minto Road

General Advisory for Public

Officials have encouraged the public to plan their journeys ahead of time and, when feasible, use the Delhi Metro to move through the city during the rehearsal period.

"Commuters are encouraged to work with traffic people on the ground and read the real-time updates on our social media accounts and eliminate anything that may cause inconvenience,” a senior traffic officer said.

The Beating Retreat Ceremony, which formally closes events since the Republic Day holiday, will be held on January 29. Today, the rehearsal is the last walkthrough for the highly-endorsed celebration that brings military bands from the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force.
