Tina Garg had been living with bilateral profound hearing loss since early childhood. Diagnosed at a young age, she faced significant communication challenges that affected everyday interactions. To ensure she received the necessary support and education, her family relocated to Chennai, where she attended a specialized school for children with hearing disabilities.

Despite her condition, Tina displayed remarkable determination and resilience. Over the years, she mastered lip reading, a skill that became essential to her communication. Through hard work and perseverance, she excelled academically and eventually secured admission to the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, one of the country's most competitive educational institutions.

Although she achieved academic success, communication remained a daily challenge. Classroom discussions, social interactions, and routine conversations required intense concentration as she relied heavily on reading facial expressions and lip movements to understand others.

While exploring options to improve her hearing, Tina consulted Dr. Sumit Mrig, Director and Unit Head of ENT and Cochlear Implant Surgery at a private hospital in Delhi. After a detailed evaluation, she decided to undergo bilateral cochlear implant surgery.

The procedure involved implanting advanced electronic devices designed to stimulate the auditory nerve and provide the sensation of sound. Following the surgery, Tina participated in a structured six-month auditory rehabilitation programme that helped her learn to recognize, process, and interpret sounds more effectively.

According to Dr. Mrig, profound hearing loss can significantly impact communication, education, self-confidence, and social engagement. He emphasized that cochlear implants, when combined with dedicated rehabilitation and ongoing support, can dramatically improve quality of life and independence for individuals with severe hearing impairment.

The results proved life-changing for Tina. As her ability to hear improved, she became less dependent on lip reading and gained greater confidence in academic, professional, and social settings. Everyday interactions became easier, allowing her to participate more freely in conversations and activities.

Her achievements did not stop there. Following her recovery and rehabilitation, Tina earned admission to the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore, one of India's premier management schools.

Reflecting on her journey, Tina credited her family, teachers, and medical team for their unwavering support. Her story stands as an inspiring example of perseverance, determination, and how modern medical technology can help individuals overcome significant challenges and unlock new opportunities.
