A historic moment unfolded in Ayodhya today as Prime Minister Narendra Modi hoisted the sacred Dharma Dhwaj atop the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple. The ceremony, held at 12:00 PM during the auspicious Abhijit Muhurat on Vivah Panchami, marked the completion of the temple’s main spire and was witnessed by thousands of devotees.
The saffron flag, measuring 22 feet long and 11 feet wide, was specially crafted by experts in Ahmedabad using aviation‑grade parachute nylon and silk thread to withstand strong winds at the temple’s 191‑foot‑high shikhara. The Dharma Dhwaj carries three sacred symbols:
- Om - the eternal sound of creation.
- The Sun - representing Lord Ram’s lineage from the Solar dynasty.
- The Kovidar Tree - symbolizing wisdom and continuity.
Prime Minister Modi, after performing rituals at the Ram Darbar Garbh Grah and Ram Lalla Garbha Grah, unfurled the flag as chants of “Jai Shri Ram” echoed across the temple town. In his address, he described Lord Ram as “the soul of India, the basis of its consciousness and its pride,” calling the hoisting of the Dharma Dhwaj both a spiritual milestone and a cultural celebration.
Officials have termed the event a “second pran pratishtha,” signifying the formal completion of the temple’s construction. Public entry to the temple was restricted during the ceremony but reopened for darshan at 2:30 PM.
The hoisting of the Dharma Dhwaj is being hailed as the fulfillment of a centuries‑old aspiration, a symbol of unity and devotion, and a defining moment in India’s spiritual journey.
