Voting for the DUSU Election 2026-27 is going on today (September 18) for the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) Election 2026-27, and as many as 1.51 lakh students are eligible to cast their votes across the university.
The election will decide representatives for four central DUSU positions: President, Vice-President, Secretary and Joint Secretary. 20 candidates are contesting the four positions in all, but two of these four positions and 20 candidates have been nominated and withdrawn at this stage.
The polling is taking place in two shifts to accommodate students taking day and evening classes. The voting began at 8:30 a.m. and will continue until 7:30 pm and the counting will take place on September 19.
DUSU Election 2026: Voting Timings And Eligible Students
In the election schedule, students attending day classes can vote from 8:30 am until 1 pm. Students who take evening classes will be able to vote from 3 pm to 7:30 pm.
There are 1,51,842 students eligible to vote in this year’s DUSU election. The university has arranged its colleges, departments and institutions to have security and crowd-management measures in place for polling day.
Delhi University is using more than 1,100 electronic voting machines, including 830 ballot units and 281 control units. The administration has also set up 158 polling booths and 12 control rooms to oversee the election process.
Students must carry the required identification documents to the polling centre. The university has also instructed students and election stakeholders to comply with the prescribed election rules and code of conduct.
What candidates do you think are most likely to run against this DUSU in 2026?
The final provisional list has seven candidates for President, five for Vice President, four for Secretary, and four for Joint Secretary, bringing the total number of candidates to 20.
The candidates for the four central posts are:
President: Ananya Raturi, Ashmit Kumar, Ejaj Mansuri, Samarth Beniwal, Sameer Kumar, Vijay Shankar Meena, Yash Dabas. Vice President: Aranya Singh Rathore, Deepanshu Shokeen, Ishu Maurya, Vir Chatrath, Akshat Shikhar. Secretary: Namrata Chaudhary, Pankaj Kumar, Riya Chhawdi, Stanzin Deskyong. Joint Secretary: B Parijat, Gopal Choudhary, Lakshay Raj Singh, Vishesh Yadav.
Among the major student organisations, ABVP, NSUI, and the AISA-SFI alliance have put up candidates for the central panel. ABVP's panel includes Yash Dabas for President, Ishu Maurya for Vice-President, Riya Chhabri for Secretary and Lakshyaraj Singh for Joint Secretary. NSUI has nominated Vijay Shankar Meena, Veer Chatrath, Namrata Chaudhary and Gopal Chaudhary for the four posts respectively.
The AISA-SFI alliance has chosen Ananya Raturi for President, Akshat Shikhar for Vice-President, Stanzin Deskyong for Secretary and B Parijat for Joint Secretary.
When will the results of the DUSU election 2026 be declared?
Voting will conclude at 7:30 pm on September 18. After polling, the electronic voting machines and election records will be secured and transported to the designated counting venue.
Counting of votes is scheduled for September 19, 2026. Counting will take place at Multipurpose Hall, University Sports Stadium, North Campus, and will begin at 8 am.
The results for the four central posts will be announced after the counting is completed.
The election comes at a time when campus security and student election rules are more of a focus. The Delhi High Court raised concerns about alleged violations of Lyngdoh Committee rules ahead of polling and about campaign violations and election rules enforcement.
September 18 is the key voting day for Delhi University students, with over 1.5 lakh eligible voters choosing representatives for the next academic year. The counting will now move to September 19, when the results of the four posts at the central DUSU will be announced.
