Apple vs Samsung War Gets New Twist After iPhone 18 Launch: Galaxy Strikes Back

The long-running battle between Apple and Samsung is going to pick up again in the form of Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max and Apple's first foldable iPhone Duo. And while it might be the new camera, performance and artificial intelligence features that Apple has added, Samsung is not taking its time to turn the focus back to the Galaxy line of phones.

Apple unveiled the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max on September 9. The new 48MP Fusion Main camera with variable aperture, A20 Pro chip, a new vapour chamber thermal system and improvements to battery life and AI capabilities. The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max went on sale on September 18.

But the biggest twist in this year’s Apple-Samsung rivalry is not limited to the conventional flagship phone. Apple also unveiled the iPhone Duo, its first foldable iPhone with a 7.6-inch internal display and a 5.4-inch external screen. The foldable will be available in October, and will put Apple in the same market as Samsung, which already has a sizable presence in smartphones.

Samsung Takes a Jab at Apple

Samsung’s response has been as predictable as they always are: humour and advertising. Samsung introduced an advertisement of Apple’s former CEO Tim Cook right after Apple’s latest announcement. The campaign coincided with Apple’s announcement and continued Samsung’s long-standing tradition of poking fun at its biggest smartphone rival.

The timing is important because Apple's entry into foldables creates a particularly interesting point of comparison. Samsung has been developing foldable Galaxy phones for years and Apple is now coming with its own conception of form factor.

And so the rivalry is moving beyond the familiar iPhone-against-Galaxy camera and performance arguments. Foldable design, AI, software ecosystems and hardware innovation are more and more becoming a part of the competition.

This is Camera Stakes for iPhone 18 Pro.

Apple’s new iPhone 18 Pro line-up has been redesigned as a photography and video player tool. The new 48MP Fusion Main camera has a variable aperture and allows users to decide how much light gets to the camera. That’s not all, Apple has also added professional camera controls for shutter speed, white balance and focus.

The new A20 Pro chip and improved thermal management are also meant to support sustained performance. Apple claims the iPhone 18 Pro Max is the biggest battery-life improvement on a Pro model.

These upgrades give Samsung another chance to differentiate its Galaxy devices, particularly in those areas where flagships have traditionally competed aggressively with display technology, camera versatility, zoom capabilities, multitasking and foldable designs.

The Foldable Battle Could Be the Biggest One Yet

The iPhone Duo may be the most significant development in the Apple-Samsung rivalry this year. The foldable has a 7.6-inch display on it says Apple has redesigned iOS experience to adapt to the larger screen size and has a redesigned iOS experience that adapts to the larger screen. It is powered by the A20 Pro and features a custom thermal system and dual-battery architecture.

Samsung already has a mature foldable portfolio, and so the comparison is all the more intriguing. Apple's arrival is one more major ecosystem to consider when shopping for a foldable phone.

The durability and hinge design of the iPhone Duo also has Apple’s attention to, suggesting that they want to address some of the concerns that have historically surrounded foldable smartphones.

AI Becomes Another Battleground

Artificial intelligence is also growing increasingly important in the Apple-Samsung competition. The iPhone 18 Pro lineup is available with iOS 27, Apple Intelligence and Siri AI, and Apple will make it more personal and context-aware.

Samsung’s Galaxy ecosystem has also made AI a big part of its smartphone strategy. That means the next phase of the rivalry will not just be about processors or megapixels. And how well each company integrates AI into everyday tasks could become just as important as traditional hardware specifications.

A smartphone rivalry that keeps evolving

For years Apple and Samsung have competed with their flagship launches, advertising campaigns and feature comparisons. The latest developments show that the rivalry is moving into new categories.

Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro is bringing major changes to the camera, performance and battery experience, and Samsung’s iPhone Duo is a new competitor in the foldable space. Samsung’s quick response on the first look shows that it wants to keep the conversation on Galaxy innovation as Apple’s new products reach consumers.

The result is a smartphone battle that’s never been more diverse. Now consumers don’t just have to decide whether the latest iPhone is better than the latest Galaxy. They have to see cameras, AI, foldable designs, displays, software ecosystems, battery life and long-term device integration in the equation.

With the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max now on sale, and the iPhone Duo coming later, the Apple-Samsung rivalry will have an even greater role to play.
