The fire has destroyed four private buses near Hale Chandapura in Anekal Taluk and sent a huge plume of smoke into the sky and scared residents and commuters there.
The fire started around 3:10 PM and completely destroyed the four buses. No injuries have been reported.
Witnesses said the fire began suddenly when the buses were parked outside. Within seconds, flames spread from one vehicle to another so fast that the scene was visible from several kilometers away. Thick black smoke billowed into the air and people ran away from the site as a safety measure.
The fire spread quickly as the buses were combustible, so that if the buses were not contained quickly in the first place the fire spread to the buses it was very difficult to contain. Local residents notified Fire and Emergency Services immediately and firefighting units were sent to the scene, as well.
Firefighters were deployed to douse the flames and prevent the fire from spreading to adjacent buildings or vehicles as well as other properties.
After a long firefighting effort, the fire was brought under control. But by the time the flames had died out all four buses were completely gutted, leaving charred metal frames and debris. Losses will be said to be well over several lakhs of rupees but will need to be calculated officially.
No passengers or drivers were in the buses when the fire broke out, the authorities said. Emergency teams also secured the area to minimize any further threat.
