Rail services on the busy Ghaziabad-New Delhi section were disrupted Tuesday after six loaded wagons of a goods train derailed, disrupting dozens of passenger services in the Northern Railway network. The disaster resulted in widespread changes to train operations, with diversions, cancellations, short-termination of services and delays.
No casualties or injuries are reported so far. Railway authorities have started restoration work at the site and senior officials, including the Divisional Railway Manager and Additional Divisional Railway Manager, are in charge of the operation at this time.
According to railway officials, 53 passenger trains have been affected by the derailment and the resulting disruption to rail traffic. Also, 24 passenger trains were diverted through alternative routes while 16 services were cancelled. Five trains were partially cancelled or short-originated or short-terminated, while eight other services were regulated which resulted in delays.
The disruption has also affected trains going towards Anand Vihar Terminal and trains travelling to and from the Moradabad Division and North Central Railway in particular. Railways have advised passengers to check the status of their trains before travelling and to be aware that such a change may happen for some time as restoration works proceed.
Some local and passenger services between Ghaziabad, Delhi, New Delhi and Sahibabad have been cancelled. These are trains like 64437 Ghaziabad-Delhi, 64402 Delhi-Sahibabad, 64411 Sahibabad-Delhi, 64408 Delhi-Ghaziabad, 64423 Ghaziabad-New Delhi and 64430 New Delhi-Ghaziabad.

Other cancelled services include trains 64425, 64432, 64417, 64439, 64406, 64401, 64434 and 64031. The cancellations have affected commuters who regularly depend on the Ghaziabad-Delhi corridor for daily travel.
Some services are also being modified instead of completely cancelled. Train 64104 operating from New Delhi to DKDE was short-originated from Ghaziabad and train 64109 from DKDE to SSB was short-terminated at Ghaziabad. Train 64112 from SSB to DKDE was also short-originated from Ghaziabad.
Similarly, train 64152 from Delhi to Aligarh Junction was short-originated from Ghaziabad, while train 64053 from Palwal to Ghaziabad was short-terminated at New Delhi.
A major service, train 54474 operating from Saharanpur to Delhi, was diverted through Sahibabad, Delhi Sarai Rohilla and Delhi.
Railway workers are on hand to clear the derailed wagons and repair the damaged tracks. The situation is being monitored and trains will be back to normal operation as soon as possible, the officials said.
Passengers should be advised to receive official railway updates before going to the train station in advance of their journey. With restoration work still in progress, commuters on the Ghaziabad-New Delhi, Moradabad and Anand Vihar routes will see train service to be delayed and may have to expect delays and changes to train schedules for now until train traffic is fully resumed.
