A road rage incident on Mussoorie’s famous Mall Road has stirred widespread anger after tourists from Gurugram attacked local people with plastic milk crates at night, wounding two people, one woman among them. One of the accused has been arrested; police are looking for three others who fled when the violence erupted.
The incident took place on the night of June 28 between 10 pm and 11 pm near the Bata showroom on Mall Road. Four tourists from Gurugram were going to the hill station in a Toyota Innova Hycross when they were shoved against a local resident’s car, Mussoorie Police said. What began as a minor traffic dispute quickly turned into a violent confrontation.

Police identified the arrested accused as Neeraj Raghav (36), a resident of Bada Gaon Sikandarpur in Manesar, Gurugram. He was arrested under Section 170 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) for disturbing public order and taken to the Executive Magistrate.
Neeraj had picked up an empty plastic milk crate that was lying outside a local shop and hit a local man on the head during the fight, investigators said. Then, shortly after, another woman who tried to stop the fight was also hit in the head with the same crate and fell onto the road. She suffered serious injuries and was admitted to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Witness Pradeep Gupta, who owns a confectionery shop near the scene, said tourists continued attacking local residents for nearly 10 minutes after a series of attempts to calm the situation were made to stop them. A few seconds later, local residents intervened, overpowered one of the accused and reported it to the 112 emergency helpline.
In short order, Mussoorie Police arrived on the spot and dispersed the crowd rapidly and arrested Neeraj Raghav. They also issued a challan to the Toyota Innova Hycross under the Motor Vehicles Act for traffic violations. Police officials said the rest of the tourist group fled the scene before police arrived and efforts were still on to find the last three people on board and arrest them.
Videos of the clash have since gone viral on social media, showing chaotic scenes on the busy tourist road. The accused repeatedly banged a plastic crate against local people, including one woman who intervened. There is mounting concern about aggressive behaviour at popular hill stations where the high tourist season is in full swing.
Police officials said they intervened quickly to prevent the situation from escalating. The viral videos are under investigation and witness accounts are being collected as part of the investigation. Legal action may result depending on the outcome of the investigation.
The incident also highlighted the need for responsible tourism and strict enforcement of law and order more so in tourist areas such as Mussoorie, where traffic is heavy and not always peaceful. Authorities have warned that any breach of the law will not be tolerated.
