So far the Hamirpur Police have unraveled a murder plot by a husband to claim a huge insurance payout in a shocking and chilling crime that has sent ripples across Uttar Pradesh. Four people, including the victim’s husband, have been formally arrested for allegedly planning to murder a young woman and trying to cover up the deadly road accident by running a car over her body repeatedly.
The grisly facts of the conspiracy were disclosed at a press conference at the Police Lines auditorium. Additional Superintendent of Police, Arvind Kumar, told the media about the collaboration of the local police and Special Operations Group (SOG) in the case. The breakthrough came just hours after the victim’s body was found near a state highway near the Pauthia canal in Hamirpur.
The Insurance Plot and Financial Motive. Police found out that Amar Singh had already had a love marriage with the victim, Rita, just two years before the attack, as they told me. But an affair that seemed like a love relationship soon turned into a financial conspiracy. Amar Singh had recently secured a high-value life insurance policy worth Rs 44 lakh in Rita's name, which is the reason for the premeditated crime.
The police further investigated and found that one of the co-accused, Pushpendra Soni alias Sahil, had already lent a large amount of money to Amar Singh. When financial pressures soared and Pushpendra repeatedly demanded the repayment of his dues, the group hatched a deadly scheme to murder Rita. The conspirators had planned to use the insurance payout of Rs 44 lakh to settle their debts and make money.
Execution of the Crime and arrests. The chilling blueprint was executed when Amar Singh lured Rita out of the city in the name of a trip to an isolated road near the Pauthia canal. Just a few minutes later, his associates, including Rita's cousin and two other friends, arrived at the scene in a car and deliberately struck her. The car was driven back and forth over the body several times to make the killing seem as though it was a tragic accident.
After the body was found in the middle of the state highway, the police launched a manhunt and a forensic investigation. Interrogation of suspects led to a full confession on the staged accident. As a reward for the quick and thorough police work, the Superintendent of Police announced a cash reward of Rs 25,000 for the investigating team. The vehicle used in the crime has been seized and legal proceedings are underway, and the case is being tried in court.
