The victim had sheltered her nephew in her house, the investigators said. On the night of the incident, the smart TV was buffering and starting slowly. The woman scolded her nephew for being unorganized, not concentrating on his studies etc. The boy, enraged because of the words she had spoken, attacked her with a bamboo stick. The assault proved fatal. Upon the attack, the boy called his 15‑year‑old friend for help, police said. Between them, they shoved the body under a cot inside the house, trying to hide the crime.

The victim’s daughter, who resides in Boisar, became concerned when her mother wouldn’t answer repeated phone calls. She enlisted her brother, who lives nearby, to check the house. Upon first pulling through, he found the main door locked and not responding to his knocks. Looking in through a window, he saw his mother’s feet lying in a pool of blood. Shocked, he immediately notified the police.

Police teams arrived to find that the house had been locked on the inside. Three hours later, officers got in by pulling slabs off a bathroom window. Inside, the doors were found to be deliberately clamped from within. One door had been locked with a screwdriver. Investigators also determined that both of the victim’s mobile phones had been broken to prevent her from reaching out to others.

The nephew who lived in the home soon became suspect. They were also surprised by his anxiety, the concealment of his face, and continuous glances toward the room in which the body was covered. During questioning, he admitted to the crime and said a friend helped him hide the body. Both minors are in detention and the investigation is ongoing.

Vasai’s murder illustrates a truth all too disturbing in violent crimes against minors. What began as a silly fight regarding a sluggish smart TV suddenly spiraled into a gruesome murder. The case has stunned the community and the families it affected around anger, a sense of accountability and a vulnerability of family members. With all of these in place, police are cracking up in a very real bid to determine the extent of the crime and secure justice for Durga Bansod.
