According to reports, forensic examination had produced hundreds of private videos and photographs of Haniyuru Chandregowda on his laptop, and the police investigation was now entering into a serious, irreversible process of investigation.
Key Findings from the Initial Investigation
The shocking footage has stunned investigators and caused them to disbelieve the case investigators, sources related to the case said. The newly arrested suspect is being questioned by the police in RR Nagar, while authorities dig through several of his digital gadgets.
During the investigation, police found several videos and photos showing Chandregowda in various settings, including intimate scenes and with many women. This, along with the amount of footage that researchers claimed was captured on the laptop, came as a surprise to investigators, the groups said.
Now police are investigating who these women are and whether they were victims of coercion, invasion of personal privacy, blackmail or theft of private material or not. Police have allegedly reached out to some of the women seen in the videos as part of the investigation.
None of them has reported formally lodged a complaint yet, though they did have some information that they have. Most of the women may be reluctant to do so for reasons of social stigma and public shaming or for the sake of personal credibility. Officials at the case reportedly told some women not to register complaints, they said, even after authorities had called them to register those complaints.
The R.R. Nagar police have arrested a man identified as Haniyuru Chandregowda, a member of a district-level child welfare committee in Ramanagara, on charges of allegedly blackmailing and sexually exploiting multiple women.

According to accounts, the most disquieting part of the investigation had been the accused’s responses during the questioning. Chandregowda has been interrogated by the police about his decision to keep on keeping the videos and photos since he never got a chance to glance at them for a long time. In response, he allegedly told investigators that the material “might be needed again in the future”, a response that seemed to send other investigators shivers.
Cyber experts and forensic teams have now been looking at the items taken from the accused to determine whether the videos had been shared or posted, or stored elsewhere in online services or cloud services. Other victims may also be involved in the case, authorities are confirming. If evidence of unauthorised recording, digital exploitation, intimidation or improper use of private content should come to light within the investigation, legal experts said, that could include a series of serious charges.
Yet officials said the inquiry is ongoing and that more information may be revealed only after the digital scan has started. The case drew a spotlight on digital privacy, abuse of private property and victims’ hesitancy to report the incident to authorities for fear of being publicly shamed.
Various social media commentators and women’s rights activists have called for more support systems, if nothing more, so that the public is more likely to report such incidents without fear. RR Nagar Police investigation continues (in progress) as it may be questioning more people involved in the case in the days ahead. But, as the inquiry unfolds, they did not say if more arrests or charges are expected.
