Heavy Rain Batters Bengaluru: Marathahalli, Bellandur, KR Puram Among Worst-Hit Areas; Waterlogging Disrupts Traffic

Heavy rains hit Bengaluru on Tuesday, as heavy waterlogging, traffic congestion and traffic jams caused chaos for people driving in many parts of the city. The people living in Marathahalli, Bellandur, Horamavu, HAL Airport, Hoodi, Jakkur, and K.R. Puram, and others also suffered rainfall and light to moderate rain in Bengaluru.

The downpour caused waterlogging on several critical roads, including Outer Ring Road, Mahadevapura limits, K.R. Puram Main Road, Varthur Road, Forum Mall surroundings, Whitefield and Panathur railway underpass. Overflowing drains and insufficient stormwater runoff exacerbated the problem, leaving roads flooded and blocked by water, and traffic disrupted.

In the city, there is traffic chaos

The heavy rain put people in difficult driving situations because flooded roads were inundated with more than a foot of water in some places. Cars and two-wheelers had to plough through flooded roads, and traffic was slow to a crawl in some areas.

Some office workers and residents returning home in the evening rush hour faced long delays because rainwater had built up on large roads. The junctions of roads were flooded, and visibility was low because rainwater was everywhere.

Bengaluru is likely to get more rain

Bengaluru will continue to be rainy for some time to come, according to weather forecasts. The temperature is expected to be between 32 and 33 degrees Celsius, and the minimum temperature in the region is around 22 degrees Celsius.

Winds are expected to reach up to 40 kmph. Heavy rainfall warnings have already been issued in some areas, but the Bengaluru Meteorological Centre is not forecasting any extremely heavy rain.

Rainfall Figures Recorded Across Bengaluru

On Tuesday night, the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Management Centre (KSNDMC) said significant rainfall was observed in many parts of the city.

HAL Airport recorded the highest rainfall at 50 mm, followed by Horamavu-2 with 34.5 mm and Marathahalli with 33 mm. Other notable rainfall figures include:

  • Doddanekundi – 27.5 mm
  • Jakkur-2 – 27 mm
  • Hoodi – 18 mm
  • Horamavu – 17.4 mm
  • Ramamurthy Nagar – 17 mm

Cloudy Conditions Persist

Cloud cover continues to dominate some parts of Bengaluru, including Koramangala, Dairy Circle, Hebbal, Yelahanka, Vijayanagar, and Rajarajeshwari Nagar. Weather officials have predicted intermittent rainfall and possible thundershowers in these areas.

The rainy spell will last all night long, and there are forecast to be occasional showers in different parts of the city. Residents should be careful in the morning and avoid waterlogged areas of the city if possible.

In the long run, Bengaluru could see more rain-related disruption in the next few days as weather systems continue to affect weather conditions in Karnataka.
