A Special Court for National Investigation Agency (NIA) cases in Hyderabad has sentenced nine people, including eight Bangladeshi nationals, to life imprisonment in a 2019 human trafficking case involving Bangladeshi women who were brought to India and subsequently forced into prostitution.
The verdict was delivered on 17 September 2026 and the judgment was reported on September 18. The court also imposed a total fine of ₹1.37 lakh on the convicts. If they do not pay the fine, they will serve an additional three months of simple imprisonment.
Nine Accused Sentenced To Life
The nine people convicted in the case include eight Bangladeshi nationals and one Indian national. The accused were prosecuted under the Indian Penal Code, Foreigners Act 1946 and Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act 1956.
The NIA said the investigation established that the accused were involved in a trafficking network that brought Bangladeshi women into India with promises of employment and better wages before forcing them into prostitution.
What happened in 2019 case?
The case originated from the operation conducted by Telangana Police in September 2019. Police registered the original case at Pahadi Shareef Police Station in Hyderabad.
In Jalpally village, three Bangladeshi women were rescued from a brothel, the NIA said. Another Bangladeshi woman was rescued from a house in Mahimood Colony, Balapur.
Following the operation, the NIA took over the investigation and re-registered the case on October 12, 2019 as RC-03/2019/NIA/HYD.
NIA Investigation And Chargesheet
Then the investigation aimed at finding the members of the trafficking network and establishing their roles.
The accused were arrested from different locations including Telangana and West Bengal in 2019 and 2020. The NIA later filed a chargesheet against 12 accused, including three individuals who were absconding at the time of the chargesheet.
The nine individuals that were ultimately prosecuted were Ruhul Amin Dhali, Mohd Yousuf Khan alias Md Imran, Bithi Begum alias Khadija Shaik, Imamul Ghazi alias Mohd Rana Hussain, Mohammed Al Mamun, Sojib Shaik, Suresh Kumar Das alias Sagor, Mohd Abdulla Munshi alias Abdul Sarkar and Mohd Ayub Shaik.
Women Trafficked On Promise Of Jobs
According to the NIA’s case, the victims were lured by promises of lucrative employment and decent wages before being brought into India and forced into prostitution.
The rescue of the women during the 2019 operation helped investigators discover the alleged trafficking network operating across locations in Telangana and beyond.
The case then became an NIA investigation with evidence collected over several years before the court proceedings concluded with the September 17 verdict.
