Police have also registered a murder case after her family raised the alarm and are investigating what could be the cause of her death.

The deceased was Komati Srijana, a resident of Telangana and a student at Sangareddy district medical college, Hanamkonda. She had been in preparation for a paediatrics postgraduate course at a medical college in Hanamkonda district. Her family became concerned after they were unable to get in touch with her, police said.

Police traced Srijana’s mobile phone location to a hotel in Miyapur. When officers got to the premises, they found her body on the bed inside one of the rooms. The body was already in a decomposed state when it was found, according to reports.

Srijana had arrived in Hyderabad on September 30 after being contacted by a male friend, investigators said. The two then met in the hotel. They had known each other for many years and had first met while Srijana was pursuing her MBBS in Mahabubnagar.

The reason for the meeting was tied to the return of a gold chain, police said. The friend, identified in reports as Ravi, checked out of the hotel on October 1 and has not been found, and police are trying to find him and figure out what happened in the hotel room.

Srijana’s father, K Bhumayya, filed a complaint that his daughter had been murdered. Miyapur police registered a murder case and began investigating evidence related to her death.

Police have also been looking at CCTV footage and other evidence to try to reconstruct the sequence of events. But investigators are as yet unable to determine the exact cause of death.

Preliminary examination did not show any external injury marks, and the body was decomposed and hard to determine the cause immediately, the police said.

The body has been sent for post-mortem examination and officials are waiting for the report to determine the true cause of death. Police are also trying to trace Srijana’s friend and establish his movements after he left the hotel.

The case is still being investigated and details are expected when post-mortem findings and other evidence are given to the authorities.
