Police officers carrying out a surprise survey following credible information determined when they arrived that the accused, Jasani Ilyan (21) was illegally manufacturing ginger-garlic paste. The paste was also kept in plastic tubs, open and susceptible to dust, flies, and other contaminants. This had rendered the product unsafe and unsuitable for human consumption. The accused also had been known to be printing an expired FSSAI license number (13624010000299) on the paper packaging to confuse customers. The adulterated paste was being supplied in large quantities to the restaurants, wholesale shops and retail outlets across Hyderabad, with the accused making vast sums of money illegally.

The police confiscated and seized 4000 kg of adulterated ginger-garlic paste as well as other items from the illegal venture.

Paste seized:

  • 40 plastic tubs (1600 kg)
  • 130 5 kg (650 kg) containers
  • 900 containers of 1 kg (900 kg)
  • 300 containers of 500 g (150 kg)
  • 3000 containers of 200 g (600 kg)
  • 2000 sachets of 50 g (100 kg)

Other seized items:

  • Turmeric powder – 5 kg
  • Acetic acid – 20 liters
  • Salt – 40 bags (1000 kg)
  • Grinding machines (big and small)
  • Goods supply auto

The adulterated paste was being sold to general kirana stores and restaurants, exposing thousands of consumers. These unhygienic products are expired and can cause significant sickness such as food poisoning and infections. Food safety violations of such scale are dangerous to human life, the police said.

The Hyderabad City Police have implemented aggressive measures when it comes to adulteration of food with the illegal stock and arrested the accused. In this case the attention on food safety laws should be strictly enforced in order to save the consumers from the abuse of our culture. So, the public has to be cautious, and food products have to be bought from suppliers with proper licenses.
