Hyderabad Rains: Hailstorms, Waterlogging Disrupt Traffic – Advisory Issued

Heavy rains accompanied by sudden hailstorms brought parts of Hyderabad to a standstill, turning the evening peak-hour commute into a nightmare for thousands of residents. Several key roads were submerged due to severe waterlogging, leading to long traffic snarls and delays across major junctions.

According to local authorities, intense downpours lashed areas including IT corridors and central zones, overwhelming the city’s drainage systems. Commuters reported being stuck for hours in traffic, particularly in low-lying stretches and underpasses where water accumulation was severe. The situation worsened as hailstorms reduced visibility and made driving conditions hazardous.

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) deployed emergency teams to clear clogged drains and pump out water from flooded areas. Traffic police were also stationed at critical junctions to regulate movement and divert vehicles from heavily affected routes.

Officials have issued a traffic advisory urging residents to avoid waterlogged roads and use alternate routes wherever possible. Motorists have been advised to drive cautiously, maintain safe distances, and avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rainfall. Public transport services, including buses, experienced delays due to congestion and poor road conditions.

Weather officials indicated that the sudden change in conditions was due to localized thunderstorms and atmospheric instability. More showers are likely in the coming days, raising concerns about recurring disruptions if drainage issues persist.

Residents are also urged to stay updated through official traffic handles and weather alerts before stepping out. Emergency helplines have been activated to assist citizens facing difficulties due to flooding or stalled vehicles.

The unexpected weather chaos once again highlights the urgent need for improved urban infrastructure and drainage management in Hyderabad, especially during the pre-monsoon and monsoon seasons.
