Haveitha Narayanabhatta, a junior in Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Madras), who is also a student of the College of engineering and Technology, was crowned Miss Universe Telangana 2026. She will now go on to represent Telangana at the prestigious Miss Universe India competition, proving that talent and ambition know no boundaries.
Hasitha is also pursuing her BS degree in the field of Data Science and Applications at IIT Madras, as well as engineering. Her success has drawn attention as she balances technology, academics, and beauty pageants, but she is a confident one.
Breaking Traditional Stereotypes
IIT Madras congratulated Hasitha for her accomplishment and said that her journey was representative of how today’s students are exploring career options beyond the horizon they were expected to take.
The institute said that its students are now making an impact in engineering and scientific research, but also in entrepreneurship, sports, arts, public service, and other fields. Hasitha’s success is a marker of this new mindset: academic excellence can be harmonized with creative and personal aspirations.
Her success is a challenge to the stereotype that students at very high-tech universities should be limited to engineering careers only.
Balancing Engineering and Pageantry
Preparing for a national beauty pageant and also doing academic work is not always easy. Yet Hasitha can handle both things up to a point.
Her academic career at one of India’s best institutions shows her passion for learning, and her success in the pageant shows confidence, discipline, communication skills, and leadership skills.
Her story will be an inspiration to students who wish to pursue several interests without compromising on their education or career goals.
A Mission Beyond the Crown
For Hasitha, the title is about much more than personal recognition.
She wants to use her platform to motivate young people to follow their dreams without fear of society’s expectations, IIT Madras stated.
She believes intelligence, compassion, confidence, and ambition are also in harmony, and young women should have options in a wide range of fields, not limited to certain fields and to stereotypes.
Advocating Digital Safety
As a result of her academic and pageant achievements, Hasitha is also interested in digital safety and responsible online behaviour.
She wants to help people understand digital security and keep the world safe in the online world, the institute said. She wants to make the digital world safer for young people in general because cybersecurity threats and fraud in the world are getting worse and more frequent, so that young people are able to use the internet in a safer manner.
Her advocacy is all part of what beauty pageant winners are doing with their public platforms to champion social causes.
Road to Miss Universe India
Hasitha will now represent Telangana at the Miss Universe India competition, in which contestants from all over the country will compete for the national crown.
With her unique combination of academic excellence, leadership, social awareness, and stage presence, she will be a strong contender for the upcoming competition.
The national title will see her be able to represent India on the international stage for the Miss Universe pageant.
Inspiring a New Generation
Hasitha Narayanabhatta’s journey from IIT Madras classrooms to the Miss Universe Telangana stage sends a strong signal to all students in India that success is not limited to one profession or one passion.
Her achievement shows that excellence in science, technology, and academics can be combined with creativity, confidence, and public leadership. As she prepares for the next step of her journey, Hasitha has already encouraged so many young people to follow more than one dream.
