The viral story seems to have picked up on after the deaths of three members of a family in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra, on August 21. The teenager Kunal Chandgude had been in dispute with his family over money connected with an iPhone and its instalments, sources said.
He later traveled to a hill, where relatives and local residents spent hours trying to persuade him to come down.
The situation ended in tragedy when Kunal fell from the hill while his father Murlidhar Chandgude was trying to intervene. His mother Sangeeta also died during the incident. Police later recovered the bodies and began an investigation.
Initial reports linked the tragedy to an iPhone dispute. The police were adamant that the investigation did not establish a direct connection between the phone and the deaths.
