Jammu is on high alert ahead of Navratri, one of the most celebrated festivals for Hindus across India. Security measures have been increased across the region, especially in temples, pilgrimage centers, and other places that are expected to be inundated by thousands of devotees during the nine-day festival. The enhanced security measures are part of the strategy to make sure that the pilgrims and the local people are protected and safe at all times during the festivity.
Security forces including the Jammu and Kashmir Police, paramilitary forces and local government have conducted extensive reviews of security preparedness in this area. Troops have been stationed at key religious places and CCTV cameras have been installed to monitor the situation. Officials have increased patrolling in sensitive areas and around crowded markets where festivals are expected to attract large crowds.
Navratri is a festival of pilgrimage in Jammu, which is referred to as the 'city of temples'. Every year, hundreds of thousands of devotees come to various shrines and temples across the region to pray and perform religious rituals. The Vaishno Devi shrine is one of the most visited pilgrimage places in the state, and people from various parts of the country come to visit. Because of the expected increase in pilgrim footfall, planning for crowd control, traffic management and emergency response are now the priority.
Security checkpoints have been beefed up on major roads leading to religious destinations. Vehicles entering sensitive zones are being thoroughly inspected and frisking protocols have been put in place at temple entrances. Anti-terrorism teams, bomb disposal teams and sniffer dog units have also been deployed at strategic locations to combat any possible threats, officials said.
Authorities have worked in coordination with temple management committees and local volunteers in order to facilitate smooth crowd movement. Public announcement systems, emergency medical services, and help desks at several places are being put in place to assist pilgrims. Women, senior citizens and children visiting religious places during the festival are being taken into account.

Apart from physical security measures, surveillance systems are being monitored from central control rooms. The real-time monitoring will help the authorities deal with any unusual activity or emergency situation quickly. Cyber monitoring teams are also in place to keep track of misinformation or rumors that could interfere with public order for security purposes.
Traffic management plans have been put in place to cope with the expected growth in vehicle traffic. Parking areas have been set up in the area, alternate routes and dedicated lanes for emergency services have been set up to avoid congestion around big religious centers. Authorities have appealed to devotees to cooperate with security personnel, obey and report suspicious activity immediately.
The preparations of local businesses and tourism stakeholders have been welcomed by the industry and local business owners as Navratri is not only a major religious event but also the time of year for economic activity in the region. Hotels, restaurants, transport operators, and local vendors in general are always in demand when pilgrims and tourists come from all sectors.
With Navratri as well as the festival coming up, the administration will ensure that devotees have faith and joy and that the festival is celebrated with the highest security and safety measures in place. Jammu is ready for the activities in the annual celebration to be peaceful and organized and as such it will be safe for everyone to get there and have a good time.
