Tangmarg, Jammu & Kashmir: Heavy rainfall has triggered localized flooding in Tangmarg, with overflowing streams inundating residential areas and forcing water into several homes.
Fresh photos from the city show fast-moving water in the streets and low-lying neighborhoods showing the effects of heavy rains.
The continued rain caused nearby streams to swell up to the limits of their capacity and floodwater in the vulnerable areas with the continuous rain and floodwater to fill the streams and inundate homes in the area. Residents in the affected areas say water entered their homes and were seen cleaning up floodwater in their homes, causing damage to household items and disrupting daily life in the affected areas.
Tangmarg, located in Baramulla district and the gateway to the popular tourist destination of Gulmarg, has been under heavy rainfall for the last few days. Heavy showers have increased the risk of flash floods, waterlogging and landslides in parts of Kashmir Valley.
Social media videos show overflowing streams, flooded roads and water rushing through residential alleyways and streets. There have been no casualties or serious injuries and the local authorities are monitoring the situation closely. Local authorities have advised residents of the district to be on high alert and keep an eye on the situation.
People who live near streams and other low-lying areas of the area, especially if the rain continues, officials have said, should be concerned. Emergency response teams are on standby and district officials are assessing the affected areas and ready to respond where needed.
