Jupiter International to Invest ₹3,000 Crore in Nagpur Solar Plant, Boosting India's Clean Energy Manufacturing

Jupiter International has committed ₹3,000 crore to build a state-of-the-art solar ingot and wafer manufacturing plant in Nagpur, Maharashtra, which is another big step in India’s fast-growing renewable energy sector.

The project will strengthen the country’s solar manufacturing capacity and cut dependency on imported raw material, particularly from China.

The new manufacturing facility will have an annual production capacity of 3 GW for solar ingots and wafers. Construction has already started and the project is expected to be in operation in phases in the next 20 months.

How can India’s solar supply chain be strengthened

The Nagpur plant will concentrate on the production of solar ingots and wafers, two of the critical upstream components required to produce solar cells and modules. At present, India imports a large share of these materials, particularly silicon wafers, thus domestic manufacturing is a key step towards self-reliance in renewable energy manufacturing.

With this investment, Jupiter International is supporting the government’s aim to create an integrated solar manufacturing ecosystem, as part of the Make in India and clean energy programs.

Industry experts think that the increase in local manufacturing capacity will enhance supply chain resilience and stability of production costs, and make India better prepared to compete in the global solar market.

Expansion Beyond Existing Facilities

Jupiter International currently operates five solar manufacturing units in Himachal Pradesh and Odisha with a combined manufacturing capacity of 4.5 GW.

The Nagpur plant will allow the company to scale up into upstream solar production and produce ingots and wafers in-house. This kind of integration will get the company much better control and efficiency, and less reliance on overseas suppliers.

Such a move is expected to create jobs in Maharashtra and also to attract ancillary industries that are in the renewable energy industry.

To help India’s ceding in its Renewable Energy Goals

India has set ambitious renewable energy targets with solar power being one of the major engines of clean energy development. Increasing domestic production of critical parts and components is seen as key to energy security and reducing import dependency.

The Nagpur project will contribute to the development of a complete solar manufacturing value chain from polysilicon, ingots, and wafers to solar cells and finished modules to create a stronger and more self-reliant solar industry in India.

Growth Plans and IPO

Jupiter International intends to achieve a turnover of ₹3,200 crore in the current year.

The company also announced plans to launch its initial public offering (IPO) in early 2027, reflecting confidence in India's rapidly expanding renewable energy market.

As more investment is made in domestic solar manufacturing, projects like the Nagpur facility are going to accelerate India’s drive towards becoming a global clean energy manufacturing hub and to drive sustainable economic growth.
