A KKRTC (Kalyana Karnataka Road Transport Corporation) bus overturned near Mahagaon, the small town in Karnataka’s Kalaburagi district, after the driver lost control of the vehicle, local police told us. The accident took place in the vicinity of Mahagaon Police Station, located in Kamalapur taluk.
According to the authorities' initial information, the bus, with the registration number KA-38 F-1229, was taking off from Bidar to Kalaburagi when the driver lost his grip on the steering wheel. It was pushed off the road and crashed into a roadside ditch. It was chaotic but, thankfully, there were only five people on board at the time of the accident.
In the aftermath of the crash, the bus driver, conductor, and three passengers suffered only minor injuries, which could have been far worse if it wasn’t for the accident. Local residents and eyewitnesses rushed to help out with the accident, expressing a kind of community spirit and concern. They worked hard to help the trapped individuals out of the vehicle, showing their willingness to help in times of crisis. The injured passengers were treated and sent to a nearby hospital for treatment, and officials were relieved that no serious injuries could be found, reducing fears of a serious accident.
Police officers at Mahagaon police station arrived immediately to make a thorough check and start an investigation into the cause of the crash. The driver might have lost control of the bus when it fell into a roadside depression (a common phenomenon on poorly maintained roads).
The bus was taken out of the accident site and moved off the road to smooth traffic in the area. Local authorities and traffic authorities took this opportunity to issue advisories to drivers; driving in the monsoon season requires extra care. Drivers should drive very slowly in the monsoon season, and visibility can be poor due to heavy rain, which can increase the likelihood of accidents.
