The Lok Sabha on Wednesday suspended Kalyan Banerjee for the rest of the Monsoon Session after he was suspended by the Chair for having used “undignified” language used by him against women in the Lower House in a heated exchange. The incident took place in a heated exchange between the ruling and opposition that turned into a verbal spat between the ruling and the Opposition, he said.
According to parliamentary proceedings, the Chair found Banerjee’s comments inappropriate and in violation of the decorum in which Members of Parliament are expected to behave. This motion of suspension was passed by the House, and Banerjee was not allowed to attend the rest of the Monsoon Session.
The suspension has triggered sharp political uproar and reactions. Trinamool Congress leaders have criticized the move, saying the government is targeting Opposition members and silencing dissent in Parliament. The party has maintained that disciplinary measures should be applied fairly and consistently across political parties.
