Kanimozhi Karunanidhi, Thoothukudi MP and DMK leader, visited and inspected the flyover at Keela Eral in Thoothukudi district on Tuesday, October 6, 2026. She saw the construction of the flyover going on and spoke with officials and received petitions from the public, and she visited the project and told them of the progress.
Vilathikulam MLA G V Markandeyan also participated in the inspection. The visit comes as construction is ongoing on a project to increase connectivity and address the concerns of the people living in the vicinity.
Flyover Expected to be Completed by End of Next Year
When speaking to reporters, Kanimozhi said that the flyover was being constructed through the Union Government in response to the demands made by people in the area.
According to the information given to her by officials, the project will be completed by the end of next year, so the current projected timeline points towards the end of 2027.
As such, we should treat the completion date as a scheduled timeline and not a final one since the current schedule can change with progress and other factors associated with the project.
Three Access Points Planned
Kanimozhi also pointed out one of the key features of the proposed flyover. She said three access points would be provided for the movement of people across the flyover.
The planned access points should help local residents and other road users use the infrastructure more easily once the project is done.
Six Flyover Projects Underway in Thoothukudi
During her interview with reporters, Kanimozhi said flyover projects were going on at six locations in Thoothukudi.
She said she hoped construction would take place and then be finished at the earliest time.
The projects are part of a more general infrastructure development process in the district that is expected to improve residents' and commuters’ road connectivity.
Public Petitions Received During Visit
Apart from inspecting the construction work, Kanimozhi also received petitions from members of the public during her visit.
Her inspection provided an opportunity to talk about the progress of the Keela Eral project directly to officials and hear from people in the vicinity.
The trip is also coming at the same time as discussions about the infrastructure and development projects in Tamil Nadu.
