Mysuru Dasara 2026: Surya Kiran Air Show and Defence Forces’ Grand Showcase Set to Add Thrill

The world famous Mysuru Dasara 2026 will also have a huge dose of military spectacle and India's defence forces that will bring a new element of excitement to the festival.

In addition to the traditional cultural programme of illuminated Mysuru Palace, the Mysuru Palace and the iconic Jamboo Savari, the festival will also have a special display of military muscle power and patriotism at the heart of it - showing the country’s military might and courage. One of the most eagerly awaited attractions in the festival will be the Indian Air Force’s famous Surya Kiran Aerobatic Team, which is going to go on an aerial display over Mysuru from October 18 to 20.

The Surya Kiran team is best known for its precise flying, synchronized formations and spectacular aerobatic performances. The aircraft will be a feature of the show and will provide a perfect example of the high level of precision of Indian military pilots with all-around performance, and will perform professionally trained aerobatic manoeuvres in a carefully planned aerial flight.

We are optimistic that the show will make the Mysuru sky very special to visitors as well as residents and tourists who are arriving for Dasara.

The planned air show will be especially significant to Mysuru Dasara as it is known for heritage, culture, music, art and royal traditions. The addition of a major defence-related spectacle would broaden the festival's appeal and provide visitors with a different kind of experience.

The roar of the aircraft and the precision of the aerial formations are likely to situate them in stark opposition to the traditional cultural activities associated with the festival.

The defence forces are not limited to the skies. Grand tableaux representing all three branches of India’s armed forces -- Indian Army, Indian Navy and Indian Air Force -- will also be present in the Dasara procession. These tableaux will showcase different aspects of India’s defence capabilities and highlight the service and sacrifice of personnel serving the nation.

The military tableaux are intended to convey a message of patriotism and national service to the thousands of visitors who are expected to attend the Dasara celebrations. Viewers will see images of the armed forces and know more about their role in protecting India’s borders and national interests through the displays.

The idea will bring a national dimension to the cultural aspect of our biggest festival in Karnataka.

The defence forces were invited from an appeal made in Karnataka by Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to the Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. According to the organizers, the Defence Minister answered to the invitation of the Deputy Chief Minister and gave it the green light for the armed forces to participate in the Mysuru Dasara celebrations.

The development is a crucial addition to the history of the Mysuru Dasara festival. For generations, the festival has been closely tied to Karnataka's culture, the Mysuru royal tradition and the spectacular Jamboo Savari. Including the military forces in the celebration adds another element of tradition to the celebration: cultural heritage as well as national defence.

The Surya Kiran performance is expected to be one of the major attractions experienced by the people. The aerobatic team's synchronized formations and fast-paced manoeuvres have previously drawn large crowds at aviation events across the country. For Mysuru, the three-day schedule from October 18 to 20 may allow visitors to see the display in stages and see the final programme and operation.

The defence tableaux in the Dasara procession could also become a major attraction for tourists and local residents. The military displays, along with the traditional cultural floats, artistic performances and other elements of the procession are expected to produce a unique combination of culture, history and patriotism.

With the Mysuru Dasara 2026 fest taking place in the coming year, expectations for the festival have risen. And if we had the Surya Kiran Aerobatic Team and the Army, Navy and Air Force as part of the event, it would be a very big deal. And though Mysuru remains in an ancient tradition of a cultural one, a military display will bring in a modern-day aspect of the fest.

So with the skies above Mysuru set to witness spectacular aerial manoeuvres and the Dasara procession with the three armed forces in the country, the 2026 edition will be a unique one, one of tradition, technology, military skill and patriotism. The final arrangements and display details will determine how the events happen, but the participation has already added lots of interest to this year’s Mysuru Dasara.
