They were attacked outside a police station after a woman and her husband filed a complaint against her relatives, the chief minister said.
The couple came to the police station to seek legal intervention in a domestic dispute going on involving members of the woman's family, police said.
As the couple walked out of the police station, they were confronted by the woman's brothers-in-law, Hemant Sharma and his associate Sandeep Sachan. The accused started a physical attack on the couple with slippers, kicks, and punches, as reported by police.
The dispute was a family conflict, though police did not confirm that.
Three-Year-Old Child Also Injured
The couple’s three-year-old daughter also suffered injuries in the attack. The child was caught in the violence while accompanying her parents outside the police station, police sources said.
The child’s condition has not been officially disclosed, but the incident has attracted public attention due to the involvement of a young minor in the assault.
Police Register Case
After the incident, Kanpur Police registered a case based on the complaint filed by the victims. The accused have been charged, and an investigation has been launched by police, and a legal process is ongoing.
Police are expected to look at eyewitness accounts, available CCTV footage from the police station vicinity, and other evidence to establish the sequence of events and determine appropriate charges.
There have not yet been any arrests made, officials said.
Investigation Underway
Investigators are still gathering evidence and are recording statements from those involved. All legal action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation, authorities have assured.

Police have advised the public to resolve domestic disputes legally and have maintained that if somebody is found to have committed assault and intimidation, the person will be punished.
