The southwest monsoon is also intensifying in Karnataka, and widespread rainfall is taking place in many parts of the state. The coastal and Malnad regions have been experiencing heavy showers over the last few days, and heavy rains are expected to occur in the near future. As the monsoon grows stronger, IMD has forecast continued rainfall in Karnataka till July 7.
According to the latest weather bulletin, several districts are expected to receive moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds. In view of the weather conditions, the IMD has issued a Red Alert for coastal Karnataka on July 5 and an Orange Alert for parts of South Interior Karnataka.
Red Alert for Coastal Karnataka
The coastal districts of Uttara Kannada, Udupi and Dakshina Kannada are expected to experience extremely heavy rainfall on July 5. Weather officials have also predicted strong winds with speeds between 30 and 40 kilometres per hour in these areas.
The Red Alert indicates the possibility of very heavy rainfall that might lead to localised flooding, waterlogging, traffic issues, road delays and minor damage to infrastructure. Residents in vulnerable areas should keep a wary eye out for this and follow local authorities’ advice.

Rainfall Expected Across Several Districts
Apart from coastal areas, rainfall is also likely in the southern and central districts of Karnataka. Kolar, Chikkaballapur, Bengaluru, Mysuru, Mandya, Chamarajanagar, Ballari, Koppal, Bagalkote, Vijayanagara, and Raichur districts in that region will probably experience light to moderate rainfall over the next few days.
Meteorologists have also indicated that thunderstorms and lightning can also be likely to occur in isolated areas, especially in the evening and nighttime.
Malnad Region Under Watch
Malnad districts of Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, Hassan and Kodagu are also expected to receive heavy rainfall accompanied by gusty winds.
These places typically experience intense monsoon activity, and authorities are monitoring river levels, landslide-prone areas and low-lying areas to avoid any damage. Tourists who are going to the hill stations and tourist destinations in the region have been advised to check the weather updates before they arrive.
Bengaluru Likely to Witness Cloudy Conditions
For Bengaluru, the weather department has forecast mostly cloudy skies over the next 24 hours. Light rain with cool winds will occur in some areas.
Although no major weather warning has been issued for the state capital yet, residents can expect occasional showers and overcast conditions, which might provide some relief from recent temperature swings.
Advisory for Residents
Even with heavy rainfall expected in some districts, authorities have advised people to avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy rain. Fishermen are advised to stay off the coast of Karnataka for safety in view of the rough sea and strong winds.
As monsoon activity continues to be active across the state, residents should stay updated with official weather bulletins and take necessary precautions to ensure safety.
