Local papers said Ramu had taken loans from private capitalists to run his hotel. The hotel at the time at which Ramu left was in a bad condition too in the fact that LPG gas cylinders he needed to continue daily operations, and the cooking equipment in food shops were none of these and the poor businessman didn’t be able to even have them anymore.

At present, Ramu had expected to repay interest on his loans by the end of March. Insanely depressed by no option for income for him, he probably didn’t want to pay; he’d turned so extreme with the pressure on him.

The trauma sent shock waves through the local society and business owners who are still worried have begun to express their sadness and concern at what one should do, the very small business owners. Rising operational costs, erratic supply chains and financial uncertainty make entrepreneurs face great difficulty to pay.

Police from Hukkeri Police Station have registered a case and launched an investigation into the reasons behind the death. This financial problem (what kind of loans should be given and maybe external pressure is on us at all times), is being subjected to stress.

This regrettable situation shows the precariousness of small-scale businesses in many semi-urban & rural areas. Business disruption from supply shortages or economic woes is bad that can bring great losses to a business that depends on cash only for day to day on hand.

For that reason, mental health professionals stress the importance of reaching out for help when financial crises happen. So will community education and financial advice services, combined with broader law enforcement such as informal lending everywhere so as to prevent future tragedies.

If you or someone you are in touch with feel crisis or suicidal, contact your family or friends. And even if those who come down with monetary help and can respond fairly well to what they’re doing will find support for recovering with help from a family member/friends to that as well.

Ramu Halluri’s death comes to our attention and is much too painful to forget the existence of the small entrepreneurs and the urgent necessity of better support systems to preserve them from harm.
