A man was found dead in a rented house in Kerala’s Perumanna area, with police taking his friend into custody after he allegedly told officers over the phone he had killed the victim.
According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Shereeq and the suspect is Mohammed Ashraf, a native of Iringallur and a friend of the deceased.

According to police, Mohammed Ashraf, a friend of Shereeq and also a native of Iringallur, called the Pantheerankavu police and informed them about the incident.

Police said Ashraf contacted Pantheerankavu Police Station and informed officers about the incident. He said he had struck Shereeq on the head, resulting in his death, and told police the body was lying inside the rented house where the two had been staying together.
After receiving the call, a police team rushed to the rented accommodation at Mundupalam in Perumanna. Officers found Shereeq's body in the house and made a first inspection.
The area around the house was secured as forensic experts and investigating officers began collecting evidence to determine the exact sequence of events. The body was later transferred for post-mortem examination, which will establish the exact cause of death.
Investigators are also attempting to interview Mohammed Ashraf to determine the actual circumstances of the incident. The phone call is part of the investigation, but police will corroborate the statement with evidence from the scene, witness accounts and other sources.
Authorities have not yet determined why the alleged crime occurred, but officials are looking into all aspects of the case, including the relationship between the two men and any events that might have preceded the incident.
Police have registered the case and started an investigation. Neighbours and other witnesses are also being interviewed to establish the sequence of events that led to the death.
Residents of the area were horrified by the incident: the two men had been living together in the rented house, police said.
They said the investigation is ongoing and all of the facts surrounding the death will be established through due legal process. Any charges against the accused will be based on the evidence collected during the course of the inquiry.
The case is now under investigation by the Pantheerankavu Police, who will take the accused before the appropriate court after the initial legal process is completed.
