T. Kishan Reddy, Union Minister and Telangana BJP president, has thanked PM Modi for his efforts to bring rice procurement to Telangana which is a gamechanger for the state's farmers and agricultural sector.
In fact, the increase in procurement is evidence of the Union government's commitment to farmers' benefits, and the paddy growers have reliable procurement mechanisms and the benefit of the MSP system.
Kishan Reddy said that Telangana is one of the leading paddy-producing states in India and that the Centre’s procurement policy has helped lakhs of farming families. He said that increased procurement will help farmers market their produce efficiently and reduce post-harvest uncertainty and strengthen rural incomes.
The Union Minister praised the Modi government for having an expanding procurement system and making sure that food grains produced by farmers reach government agencies. The Centre has prioritized timely procurement and payments to farmers while maintaining a strong focus on food security and agricultural development, he said.
Rice procurement is one of the most important elements of India's agricultural support system. Under the MSP model, government agencies procure paddy from eligible farmers to ensure they get a remunerative price for their produce. The grains are subsequently processed and distributed under the Public Distribution System (PDS) and other welfare programmes in order to achieve food security across the country.
Kishan Reddy said increased procurement not only benefits individual farmers but also contributes to the rural economy as it creates cash flow to farmers’ communities.
