The controversial videos, which purportedly were recorded with Jayalingegowda, credited with being close to senior MLC Basavaraj Horatti, have soured students and job prospects already mired in unemployment and gossip about the selection examinations.

Viral Audio Addresses Serious Questions

According to the alleged hearing and video clips, the alleged accused can purportedly be said to have assured prospective candidates that appointments via the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) can be "managed within," internally.

The discussions purported to have occurred at a hotel in Gandhi Nagar, Bengaluru, while the accused allegedly spoke with candidates about possible methods of recruitment and remuneration. In the videos, he said, “There’s nothing impossible” about getting a government job and proposed “adjustments” to the examination so the candidates could be chosen right away to go through their examination.

Demand for Rs 25 Lakh

Among the most alarming revelations in those viral recordings is that the candidates were supposedly demanding ₹25 lakh in order to get an entry-level role within the government. The accused purportedly tells applicants that the process is “complicated,” so it should be done through sensitive channels precisely.

He is also seen saying to prospective candidates to keep the matter confidential and not let it leak around. As per the proposed chat, the candidates were then asked to provide their application numbers when notified of the official event in order to set up recommendation letters and other “arrangements”.

Horatti’s Name is claimed to be employed

The controversies continued after it was said that the accused had used Basavaraj Horatti's name multiple times in the videos when he said the “Horatti sir’s word would never fail.”

Accusations of recruitment controls and references to recommendation systems that potentially affect submissions are also part of the audio. Yet there’s no written test confirming whether the recordings were accurate or whether the senior MLC was involved in the purported talks.

Public Anger Grows

The incident has sparked outrage throughout Karnataka, especially among students training for competitive examinations. A series of accusations of bribery and coercion in the recruitment systems has enraged many aspirants.

Those accusations, critics say, damage the public’s confidence in government institutions, and meanwhile thousands of accredited students are supposed to prepare for tests, rather than just sit and answer, which depresses real candidates.

Demand for Investigation

Opposition voices and activists are now requesting a higher-level investigation into the scandal. And some have requested a forensic assessment of the viral audio and video clips to see if it’s the latter’s accuracy.

The fallout will once again bring public sector transparency issues with recruitment procedures and the fact that more robust scrutiny is needed during public service exam scrutiny, up to the headlines of the following days.

Government Yet to Respond

The videos were subsequently distributed widely on social media, raising questions about the timeframe given for such authorities to act in this type of situation for those implicated.

To date, there has been no official statement released by the government or its officials in-depth. But pressure is growing for a final report to get those involved behind bars and restore jobseekers’ faith in the state’s talent pool.
