Lakhimpur Kheri: A 26-year-old schoolteacher was killed in a private school in Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur Kheri when a man who had allegedly come to meet her attacked her inside the school premises. Mohammed Saud (28) died by suicide at the scene, the police said.
Nishat Fatima, who lived in Hidayat Nagar locality in Sadar Kotwali district of Kheri city, was the victim, police said. She had been working as a teacher at Children's Academy School for about a year, according to Kheri Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Khyati Garg.
According to the police account, Saud entered the school premises to meet Fatima and spoke with her in a corridor. During the interaction, he allegedly attacked her, and then he died by suicide. Police arrived at the school after receiving information about the incident and immediately secured the property.
The incident caused great panic in the school as students and staff became aware of what had happened. Police were sent out to escort students, and the corridor where the incident occurred was cordoned off to allow for investigation. Reports said anxious parents also gathered outside the school after the incident.
Senior police officials, including SSP Khyati Garg, arrived at the scene to survey the area and conduct the investigation. A forensic team was then sent to collect evidence. CCTV footage and the school’s security arrangements will be reviewed to establish what happened and how the accused entered the building.
Police said Fatima and Saud had known each other for a long time and had been in touch. Some accounts have attributed the incident to a possible relationship dispute, but officials have continued to investigate and have said that a full understanding of the motive would be based on the evidence gathered during the investigation.
The school's visitor-access procedures and security measures are also being investigated. Police have said CCTV recordings will be reviewed as part of the inquiry. School administrators, teachers, and other witnesses who were present at the scene may be interviewed, school officials have said.
The deaths of the two individuals have raised security concerns regarding educational facilities and visitor access during school hours. Authorities are investigating how the accused entered the school and whether security measures were followed. Any security lapses will be determined as the investigation progresses.
The bodies of Fatima and Saud were sent for post-mortem examinations as standard procedure. Police are also questioning members of both families for information about the circumstances preceding the incident. Witness accounts, CCTV footage, forensic evidence, and other material from the scene will be combined with testimony collected by investigators to establish a timeline.
Because the violence occurred in the school, the school community has been traumatized. School authorities and police are doing everything to secure the premises and ensure that students can leave safely while the investigation continues.
