Hulimavu village residents are in a panic after a leopard sighting in Nanjangud taluk of Mysuru (Nanjangud district) is reported to have attacked and killed people, and people have lost their livestock. A village in Hulimavu is a place of a very bad neighborhood in Mysuru of Nanjangud taluk, where the panic is spreading like fire, and the people are scared because of this attack on a domestic cow.
The leopard, as it seems to have attacked a cow owned by a local person, Madappa (see below), had been vicious. The village is scared and anxious about the death of all the animals, and the villagers have voiced their fears about it. “The very presence of such a wild animal in such proximity has made the entire village feel haunted and scared,” said one resident.
Based on the high level of danger surrounding the leopard and the cow, officials from the Karnataka Forest Department came to the village immediately to investigate the situation. Forest personnel are closely monitoring the leopard now to know what it is doing and what should be done to prevent the leopard from coming back and what should be done to prevent it. Since the village residents are afraid and the village is already scared, I think they need some warning measures taken.
With this in mind, the Forest Department has established a trap cage to catch the leopard, and this is in line with the villagers’ safety as well as the livestock. The department has strongly warned local people to be alert and be cautious in isolation and in the early morning and late evening when wild animals occur.
The leopard has understandably raised fears among the villagers not only for their livestock but also for the safety of their family members. Many are calling on the authorities to take swift action to capture the leopard, hoping to prevent any further attacks that could lead to more serious consequences.
Forest officials will continue to watch over the area so that the leopard is captured or moved to a safe and more suitable habitat to protect public safety, in a bid to keep it safe. They have also issued warnings to the public: Don’t try to follow or confront the leopard and call the Forest Department immediately if you have seen it.
The operation to catch the leopard is at work, and officials will be working hard to resolve the situation as quickly as possible. The Forest Department has assured the community that they will be providing updates on the progress of the operation and any changes to the situation as it unfolds.
